You aren't gonna get much of a response, since most people don't like the main protagonist to be an amoral jerk.

Nope. I also didn't put on a trip since I wasn't actually trying to make myself a convincing ringer - just making a joke based on the fact that Shrimpy has actually tried to argue GGG has morally grey characters before. I thought it was Guy he tried to argue, but it was actually Mamoru. Same difference in terms of silliness though.

As far as these threads are generally concerned, it's that hero that kills villains without feeling bad for doing it.

You know, the mindset that lead to that pretty over the top era of comics in the 90s where everyone had a dark side and shit got bloody for the sake of getting bloody.

Notice how often people praise a protagonist here for having no qualms with killing their enemies.

Anonymous 07/06/14(Sun)21:52 UTC+1 No.11039781 Report

You guys do realize about the MORAL shit you talk about are usually the characters you hate the most. Most of the video games you say suck has these fucking stupid idealistic moral protagonists that are on naruto level of idealist and frienship is magic shit. I don't mind moralfag protagonist from time to time but most of the time it sucks because the moralfag protagonist is never left with a difficult choice. It is always he/she will save everyone free from consequence. I think a good moral fag protagonist is one where he /she makes a difficult choice that leaves the protagonist in ruins and has to reaffirm his morals. But most time the moralfag saves everything and is insufferable about their morals always spouting them saying his morals are right and everyone else is wrong. An example : 90% male anime protagonist,

Kenshiro's actions make sense in the context of the world he lives in. There's no law, no police and no jail to throw the bad guys into, so he can't afford to give them second chances. And I don't see how wanting to help people being brutalized for the amusement of some cruel asshole not "reasonable human behavior".

The point is they're tragic figures. It's impossible to uphold their morals in the world they live in, and not because the world is just bad and everyone's bad and I'm good; it's because the moralfag is so stubbornheaded that he can't realize he's on an unsustainable path (ie tragedy).

Look at Noah for an example, the story was supposed to be rooting for how great Noah is for not being corrupt and evil and saving all the pure creations of God, but Darren just filmed what was really happening (and described in the Bible), Noah going to extremely immoral ends (letting millions die, many of whom were likely not 'evil'; and in the movie, obviously planning to kill the babies and not let the family live on) in order to carry out the mission he was given. He's a moralfag and the whole movie, you watch him knowing he's wrong.
If the movie just turned and said just Kidding! He was right all along now take home these values of strong father figures and steadfastness to your ideals, well it's just an dumb umreflective movie, most likely written for kids.
