Anonymous 07/05/14(Sat)00:03 UTC+1 No.11029911 Report

Would being in a neurally-linked giant, agile flesh body be more advantageous than being in a clunky, slow mobile suit where everything relies on the pilot's manual controls?
>>
Anonymous 07/05/14(Sat)00:07 UTC+1 No.11029925 Report

No, because a mobile suit would just shoot your giant, agile flesh body with any number of large beam weapons

I think giant flesh bodies would be slower than giant robots. I mean, robots can have big-ass thrusters on them.

Titans are shitty and wouldn't last long at all in a science fiction environment. They're only a huge threat in the series because the humans only have primitive weaponry and equipment.

Does this body have any projectile-based weapons?
Can it breathe fire?
Can it fly?

If you answered NO to at least two, then I'm sorry, but your giant ass is just a really big ant waiting to be squashed.

A Zaku II would beat a Titan's ass. You have to go really low tier for them to be superior to a mech.

I'm simply comparing the strenghts and weaknesses of a giant flesh body vs. a giant mechanical one. As in, which one would be more useful? That isn't to say that we can't have the fleshies be armored or unarmed. Things like reaction speed, power, etc, are what should be discussed. No Newtype shenanigans.

>>11029911
If the flesh body is neurally linked, it'll have the speed and reaction advantage unless the mobile suit is piloted by a Newtype. Assuming both are unarmed, a standard mobile suit would get smashed before it can even react. Not to mention that a flesh body is capable of moving with far more flexibility than a mobile suit. In melee, it's a clear winner. With weapons, it'll have a reaction advantage.

And before people start bullshit about metal being more durable than flesh, it sure as hell isn't at that scale. Also, there's no reason to assume that the flesh body isn't armored.

A mobile suit can also have wheels last I checked. Or use it's engines to jump, fly, hop, skip, or double dutch. A mobile suit can cover ground by more than just walking slowly using it's engine by a variety of means and probably outpace any flesh being is the central point regardless of how you want to dodge it.

You're delusional if you think a Zaku II can outmaneuver a human of its size. It's not about what type of movements it can do, but how quickly and sequentially it can go through them. Basically, martial arts are impossible for standard grunt suits (except Doan's Zaku because of lolTomino).

A human of its size would be a ticking timebomb waiting for his innards to collapse in on themselves and die. The human still has to use their own strength generate enough momentum to actually move their giant body and would be exhausted after the first two steps.
>>
Anonymous 07/05/14(Sat)01:02 UTC+1 No.11030113 Report

Would the best answer not be a compromise of the two? After all, if you can build a giant human out of flesh, why not just put those artificial muscles inside a giant robot in place of pistons so that it's more nimble while still having thrusters for great straight line speed and so on.

No, because the design of living beings aren't meant to be scaled up or down from their baseline too much. Scale them too much into either direction and they will begin to suffer from cascading failures that'll make their life a hell of pain and suffering.

The only things that makes flesh desirable on this scale are (1) mass production and (2) self repair. The first option would essentially turn biomecha into a bioweapon epidemic, like a human nation releasing hordes of mutants onto an enemy's cities, but that would be seen as incredibly inhuman and dangerous. The second option isn't desirable in a war situation, since cellular generation is too slow to keep up with the pace of modern warfare. For both situations, using mechanical constructs would be preferred and would probably be the superior choice most of the time.

Anonymous 07/05/14(Sat)23:58 UTC+1 No.11034871 Report

The problem with making that comparison is that the flesh that could form a giant robot is necessarily going to be so far from anything we would consider flesh that it's impossible to judge either way. It's probably going to look more like the Iron Giant than Eva 01.
