Cyclocross general
I'm looking for suggestions:
I'm in the market for a steel cx race frameset, no panniers rack/fender eyelets/waterbottle crap
No goddamn singlespeeds, I want my usual 1x10 sram x9 type2 because fuck you sram CX1
Disk mounts mandatory, preferably postmount.
No fred/commuter/summerfag couple of mm tyre clearance to get stuck on first proper mud.
Must be available in europe somehow.

pic related my current frame

why would you need to replace the hanger?

Anonymous 03/27/14(Thu)21:07 UTC+1 No.642582 Report

Steel frames usually don't have replaceable hangers. You are just expected to bend them back into shape.

They are quite common on contemporary steel mtb hardtails.
I expect to fuck the hanger up eventually,
the most common framebuilding cromo needs to be heat treated after welding.
Its way more reasonable to have a replacable hanger.

protip: if you fuck up the derailer hanger on a steel frame beyond repair, chances are that the rest of the frame is compromised too.

the reason crabon and aluminium frames have removable hangers is because they have to. The few bikes I've ridden with integrated aluminium hangers get bent out of shape real easily and have to be straightened every month. Carbon hangers wouldn't hold it's strength along a lateral axis well. They'd be even more fragile.

Steel has the best elastic strength for derailer hangers.

Surly Pacer makes for a reasonable CX frame as well, clearance for 700x32c.
