Homemade flying stuff Anonymous 03/21/14(Fri)10:58 UTC+1 No.639177 Report

I want to start a new thread serie, named "Homemade Flying Things", where everyone discuss the making of homemade aircrafts, submit their own ideas, and stuff like this. Is this ok for you? Is this the right board, and there's people willing to contribute?
Notable examples:

Anything homemade is ok, manned or not

The only other place I can think of is /diy/, but here is probably better. Just be patient, /n/ is a slow board.

As much as I enjoy discussing them, that's probably more of a /toy/ or /diy/ thing.

>Chinese farmer-built airplane
I think I've heard of these guys... private aviation was illegal in the PRC until very recently, and this small group of amateur pilots in rural China took to clandestinely building and flying their own airplanes. Supposedly they'd only need to pay a small fine if caught.

OP here, thanks for the feedback.
i'm kinda new to this board and i do not know a lot about it
I was planning to do a sort of "general" like on /vg/, where we can collect any information and experience about the homemade airplanes or helicopters.

the only homebuilts i really know of are Vans aircraft... are there any other proven designs? high performance designs?

Vans RVs are the most successful homebuilts with good reason, but there are a vast number of well-proven homebuilt designs on the market. Off the top of my head:
>Lancair family
>Rutan EZ family
>Anything by Glasair
All relatively popular and well-proven series homebuilts, with outstanding performance. The RV is a much better all-arounder though, IMO. They're fairly fast and efficient, aerobatic, comfortable and have good short-field performance.
