No

You can ride on it and it will move forward when you pedal. This year's model costs $500 new, about the amount a good suspension fork costs.

If you ride it, it's good. If you don't, it's shit.

With modern technology most all bikes are fine. You got yourself a lower level bike and for what it's worth, its a decent ride. Just don't think about too much, just enjoy riding it. It should serve you for several years, and by then you will know exactly what you want in your next bike.

Except cheap suspension forks. But otherwise mid-range and even some entry level bikes are comparable is not superior to older top of the line bikes in terms of performance. If it isn't bottom of the barrel crap, it is most likely decent and very usable, just not a very good deal compared to nicer mid-high end bikes.

Your dad doesn't love you. He never has.

The components are a few generations behind the curve, but should still serve you adequately. The major exception is the fork, which will probably only last about six months of regular riding.

The bike is good enough to either get you hooked on mountain biking - after which you buy a better bike - or for typical utility cycling.
