I'm ready to order my new wheelset for my fixed gear, but hours of research have driven me insane. I really like the reviews of the H Plus Son Archetype rim, and Formula Origin8 hubs are supposedly good enough. Velomine.com has by far the cheapest price for this setup, but they seem to only be stocking DT Swiss Champion spokes. This really bothers me, the Competition spokes have a much better reputation and barely cost more. Is it worth worrying about?

Time to dust off the TB14 wheelset.

Because I'm not willing to literally double or triple the price just to get better hubs. Better rims, like the Archetypes, cost hardly more than the cheap stuff. I think this is a pretty good balance.

Should have gotten that from "my fixed gear".

It's looking like your "hours of research" was more or less just looking at pictures of other people's fixed gears and determining the Archetype was a popular rim choice without even understanding WHY it's a good rim; you're just hoping on the bandwagon.

Also, O8 hubs are shite. Ask your mum for a raise in your allowance and get a wheelset with decent hubs.

Actually no, I've read a shit ton of reviews and want anything but heavy stylish Deep V type rims. And radial lacing is the only option with the Formula hubs, I honestly don't want it, it's part of what I don't like about my current setup. But what else did I expect from 4chan?

I just consider the hub upgrade a value issue. The hub is less important than the rest of the wheel. I don't need a new wheelset, I just want one because my current set is old and fragile (24h). I don't want the wheels to have a disproportionate cost to the bike, a Felt TK3.

Wrong. Shit hubs laced with to good rims still make for a shit wheel.

So I guess you missed the billion Open Pro wheelsets out there?

You picked the Archetype because it looks posh. The fact that you don't place any value in hubsets shows you don't know enough to claim you're making an educated purchase here.

Do the looks matter? Sure. But as a recent wide-tire fan, I wanted the wide rim as well. Nice anodized finish and quality. Good reception by critics. But yeah, I must be a hipster faggot because I'm not ordering a 15yr old rim as a safe bet.

Also, regardless of price and quality, I like that the Velocity hubs are fixed/fixed. There's no need for a 'free' side when freewheels exist, and I hate the dishing a single-sided hub requires (like the ones I have now).

I'm not pro road racing. I don't want to spend $600. If you guys were able to get off your high horses and suggest something that beats Archetype+Velocity for around the same price, I'd love to hear it. I just want some strong symmetric wheels that don't look like they came from 1995.
