Why is Southwest so awful?

It's literally a plane for Chads.

What would make anyone think unassigned seats on a plane is a good idea?

I rode Southwest four times out of necessity to get in and out of Dallas-Love and each time passengers tried to bully others in and out of their seats like a bunch of middle school bullies.

you paid more/checked in earlier to get dibs on a seat ahead of them. tough cookies if they want it, it's yours now. nobody gets a guarantee that the middle seat next to them stays empty either. most of the WN flights i've been on are full enough that there aren't any empty seats in the first ~20 rows anyways.

instructions from the flight attendant to move are different, please always follow those.

I figured anyone who mentioned them probably lived in one of their hubs. I like that they offer their own branded service unlike most regional airlines and they are most certainly an improvement from the old Gulfstream Airlines. However, their labor relations with the pilot group could be better.

Is it just me or are turboprops seemingly more fun to fly than jets? I'm talking about piloting one. I've never flown a jet before (which is why I said "seemingly") but it just seems underwhelming? Or maybe I'm fucking stupid and it's the best thing ever.
Metroliners, Saabs, Brasilias, and 1900Ds are sexy as fuck and are a ton of fun to fly.
>>
Anonymous 08/29/14(Fri)00:11 UTC+1 No.716266 Report

>>716263
DC-3s and most turboprops are based to fly because you are actively involved in the process. Having to adjust mixtures, oil temperatures, cowl flaps, and actually maneuver since they fly at lower altitudes and the wind actually affects them, etc.

Manual cars are to turboprops as automatics are to jets
>>
Anonymous 08/29/14(Fri)00:30 UTC+1 No.716275 Report

>>716266
I'd having flown the Dash 8 (200/300) and the CRJ I can say that the Dash was more fun to fly, but not because of having to move condition levers. It still had an FMS, autopilot and EFIS so, in other words, still pretty automated like the jet. What was great about the Dash or any turboprop is that they're pretty forgiving. They are slower and in general less slippery than a jet. With that it's easy to do things like a short approach. Jets are still fun to fly, they require you to think a little bit further ahead and plan your descents. You can't go balls to the wall to the outer marker and slow down last minute like a turboprop. Any aircraft is fun to to fly, it just depends on how you look at it.

I fly SWA simply because Love Field is so much more convenient for me than DFW.

I've never seen anyone bully passengers over seats. Plenty of people will ask nicely for someone to move so they can sit with a spouse/child, but never bullying.

That's still bullshit though cause it's the same thing. Don't even ask that shit man, it's the same as guilting people to move. They know full well that some people are beta and others are over emotional and will move from a seat they paid for just cause they feel bad.

Agreed.

You can either be beta and move and take a blow to your ego or you can have self respect and not move and deal with, as you said, passive aggressive behavior for the whole flight from the bf/gf/spouse of the person who asked you to move.

You can't win. I'd never ride their planes again because of this. I know how people are and this has happened to me and others on each flight with them I've taken.

Airlines do assigned seating for a reason

The only way to fly is in first on a major carrier, on a wide body jet. Anything on a regional airline, and yes a B737 is a regional airline, is shit tier. Anything in a Caravan or a C402 you are placing your life in your own hands. The E170 series for the regional airlines have come along way for passenger QOL versus the old school CRJ200 bullshit. If you are going to fly domestic, then hire a private 135 charter, and get your homo-luscious ass on a private jet.

All American carriers are shit.

In Europe, Easyjet and Ryanair used to do this.
Then Easyjet tried randomly assigned seats at online check-in, or, pay more and chose normal/premium seats.
Six months after, Ryanair followed because it had a shitty reputation of consumer satisfaction.
You just gotta hope somebody starts doing it. The others will eventually follow.
