so im getting a car pretty soon and i was thinking of getting a radar detector once i get my car.

has anyone had any experience with them?
do they work?
are they effective?
are they worth it?

my buddys hot mom has one on her audi and it works really well, but be warned if you drive through a shopping district, they do pick up on the signal automated doors give off...

Im also getting another car soon, i want something more sporty and economical than my current DD, a 97 Chevy 1500
