Effective Hybrid Outdoor Shoes Anonymous 08/18/14(Mon)16:20 UTC+1 No.370151 Report

Hey /out/, my old trail running shoes have finally lost their sole entirely and I'm looking for a new pair. But I've also started doing a lot of ~10-15 mile day hikes, and have had some problems with my running shoes on these trips.

Is there a good shoe for both hiking and trail running? And if there's not, should I err on the side of a hiking shoe or a running shoe? Pretty out of my depth here.

Montrail Mountain Masochist. I've raced ultras in them and used them for general outdoor use, over 400 hard running miles on them and they look new, and I've trashed shoes in under 200 that I used in much easier conditions

i wear a pair of Northface Ultra 105 GTX XCRs, and i love them. they've been through hiking over lava rocks in Hawaii to hiking steeps in the Rockies - no problems. waterproof, lightweight, fit like sneakers. they're like having comfortable little jeeps on feet.

how have the running shoes not help up? people hike the PCT in trail runners. could try the patagonia rovers. i hike in northface hedgehogs which are light hikers.

also have worn my hedgehogs with superfeet blue insoles carrying 30-50 lb packs across 5+ miles with no foot pain or blisters.

Hiked for a bit in Salomon trail runners, they're pretty comfy.
