Hey /out/, I'm on a camping road trip and am in California: however, due to unforseen circumstances with a camping site near LA, I need to find a camp site near San Francisco or north along the coast- preferably, if possible, free (first come, first served), doesn't need advanced reservations, and is near or on the beach (for car camping): I realize these criterion are pretty hard to come by in this season, but I'm in a pinch. Thanks.

There are hundreds in the area, including within Golden Gate Park (although each of the campgrounds only has like 3 spots, and only one is free). Just cross the Golden Gate Bridge. There are plenty that are free, first-come, first-serve, like in Mount Tamalpais. Check Marin County camping. Google can answer these things.
