I'm looking for some activities that can bring me /out/ other than being /out/ for the sake of it.

I'm thinking about joining a climbing gym.

What do you guys do?

I climb (inna gym and outdoors). I go on walks every day, usually about 3.5 miles. I bike places if they're nearby, <10 miles. Geocaching-- good way to go /out/ with a purpose. Mostly, though, I don't need an excuse to go out besides "getting away from it all."

One way I'm doing this is going antler hunting next month. It'll be a goal to strive for which will spill over to a hobby at home.

fuck i miss working outside....
fuck i miss working outside.

wasn't really 'out' just in the yard of a factory.

sure beats being under the white lights. where you can't tell the time and always feel fake air.

never see animals or rainbows or airplanes flying to low. no sounds or anything. Just sterile junk.

Take up fishing. Buy a cheap little combo and have a ball. It doesn't have to be anything special, the $20 Zebco 33 combo will catch you tons of fish.

You can also buy a packing rod and reel and go for long hikes to remote locations with low fishing pressure. I do this a lot. Some great fishing, and big fish, in the backwaters. Most people don't go there if they can't get to it in their bass boat.

Nothing more relaxing than a nice hike of a few miles to a nice deserted section of bank, then a few hours of fishing.

And as a plus, you have lots of free, delicious, and fresh fish. Build a little fire, and cook them right there on the bank. Life doesn't get too much better.
