obviously he's trolling because it's ridiculous on every level, starting with the implication that the dog died happily and just needed to be packaged for removal and then dumped

in MA where I'm from, within a certain distance from dwellings (like 500' or something) open land is free to pass-through or hunt in, as long as you don't litter, burn, dig, chop, or do other damage. you need permission to put a tree stand up that might damage the tree, and it can't be up longer than a couple weeks or outside of hunting season.

other than that you can go whereever you want wihtout breaking laws. once someone asks you to leave OR posts signage it becomes civil trespassing - a crime which is not punishble by suing someone or threatening them. you can pull a gun on someone on your own land for only the reasons you can pull a gun on someone anywhere else.

pretty sure you can independently charge them with littering/damaging your land (which is not a civil suit like trespassing is) and the court will probably order them to clean it up or pay you a fine

Yup fellow MA fag here and this guy nailed it. If the land isn't posted and abide by all the normal hunting laws (i.e. can't shoot within 500' of a building, 100' of a road etc.) then you're good to go. It's common decency to ask for permission before hand however. I like having the piece of mind that I'm 100% in the clear.

Back in the day, I deer hunted on this old guy's 30 acres in the semi-rural fringe of metro Detroit
and while the land wasn't posted, (nor is this necessary) it was blatantly obvious where the property
lines were from the 100 year old overgrown tree/shrub lines everywhere.

Yet despite this, the old guy had half a dozen tree stands in his barn, that he had cut down off trees
on his property from morons who would simply march onto any field or woods and toss up a stand.

I think trespassing is governed in quite a few different ways around the United States. For example, in rural Texas you can shoot pretty much anything that's strays on to your land. However, Castle Doctrine in Wisconsin isn't what Texas has.

Find a judge who will convict anywhere and circumstances can become irrelevant.

As for the guy talking about "unedumacted shotgun owners"-

Hunting used to be a sport specifically reserved for nobles....... You could be killed or tortured (nobles choice) for hunting on someones land (and remember, back then peasants didn't own land....) It was only the MOST educated, MOST wealthy, MOST sophisticated members of society that were given the privilege of harvesting gods creatures from gods green earth.

While it's legal, it's also just greedy, how much of that catch will they actually eat? I know people that do this all the time and the end result is normally them getting sick of it throwing it away after it sitting in the freezer for a year. Only keep/kill what you can eat is an unspoken rule that applies to fishing as well as hunting.

Also that vintage photo from 1898 is why Murray Cod are an endangered species now, at least in South Australia. Thanks to these fucks killing every single one they could find a century ago, it's rare to catch one here. Luckily they are protected for the most part and the average fisherman has the common sense to let one of the largest freshwater species in the world go back into the water after catching one.

You seem to forget when 1890 was...... this was still a time in the world where the biggest triumph a man could have was discovering a country, exploration and mountaineering where in their highpoints, the industrial revolution was just booming, and for the first time in human history man didn't find himself in a sea of abundant resources that could outlast his efforts.

See, we didn't KNOW any of this shit back then. We thought for the most part if we farmed all the fish, the fish would fuck and there would be more. Or we'd eventually just go fish somewhere else, etc etc etc. It was a totally different time with a totally different mentality on who humans where and what our place in the world was.... so don't go around just calling these guys "These fucks who just murdered everything!" because they were just out feeding their families and putting money in their pockets.

There are much worse people from that time period to rant and rave against, the lowly australian fishermen is hardly one of them.

Nah they're doves dude. And unfortunately, theres going to be nothing we can really do about rabbits besides Myx to lower their populations. Targeted recreational hunting of species like Rabbits at most could probably get 50% of the population, and in a species of such high fecundity you need to kill more than 95% to have any lasting impact. The best thing we could do is reintroductions of the dingo, that'd sort those rabbit cunts out.

So if you own land in MA you don't actually own your land? Seems pretty fucked up IMO that you, as a landowner, can't control who is and isn't allowed to use you're land. Idk about you but If I own a good chunk of land for my friends and family to use I'd like the ability to walk around on MY property without running into some asshat taking potshots.
Maybe it's because I live in the Western U.S. where there is plenty of public land for everyone to use, but private land should be private.

Your stupid is showing.
Seasonal hunting, which you mis-label as "recreational" is by its design intended to control populations.
Otherwise, it would be fruitless to require permits to hunt antlerless deer in many WMD's in Maine, or moose hunting by permit (lottery) only in Maine.

Get a fucking clue, hipster.

The same goes for koalas here in Australia. In some states they are heavily endangered, in others they have overpopulated to the extent that they are dying from starvation. That doesn't even make sense. In the case of koalas that I mentioned before, people really have no genuine reason to 'start'. They don't destroy crops, they don't attack (unless cornered) and they don't taste nice. All they do is eat, sleep and shit. A government permitted cull would be perfect in the overpopulated areas, undertaken by professionals (so your average Joe Bloke doesn't grab a six pack and a cricket bat and have an afternoon of fun.)

In the case of the whale population that the other anon stated, who exactly would be 'starting'? It certainly wouldn't be open season on the NP grey whale population, it'd be selected individuals taken out under scientific guidelines.

Can you explain your viewpoint a little more to help me understand?

Because that was when the trend of people shooting anything that moved to sell it or make room for cattle with virtually no oversight or regulation was at its strongest; ranchers stamped out entire populations of wolves, cougars and bears (and tried and failed to do the same to 'yotes) out of blind fear for their livestock and deer, elk and bison were hunted extremely hard by professional hunters both for their resources and because they were viewed as taking up resources that could be used by cattle.

Did you even read my post? Not once did I say these animals should be killed for any kind of profit. In fact, it would probably be easier and cheaper to just let these populations just run themselves into the ground and obliterate their own food sources.

The 'culling' (although could more accurately be termed 'attempted extinction') of the large predators in the US is the exact reason why deer seasons are so important- without large enough populations of the natural predators, the deers' own populations will skyrocket out of control.

There's no reason these culls need to be made public, and they certainly shouldn't be open to the public (in the form of a tag system.) A discrete, scientifically based cull carried out by professionals would be the ideal solution.

You wanna name some predators of koalas for me? They spend the vast majority of their lives in trees, away from dogs, and are generally too large to be affected by birds of prey, goannas, cats or foxes. Their main population control is their slow rate of reproduction and availability of food. Other factors, such as fires, also play a part, although research studies haven't concluded just how much these effect the population of koalas, both statewide and nationwide.

Mostly the fact that the stereotypical hippie has a very narrow, ignorant and/or one-sided view of any given situation and doesn't hesitate to attempt to cram their opinions down your throat and marginalize you when that tactic fails.

4chan has never really been too awful to people who actually have some spine to there argument (no matter what that argument may be) but usually collectively reams the anuses of people who present their opinion and scream "no, no, you're wrong lalalala I can't hear you and you're all [insert topical slur here] anyway so who cares what you think" when it's challenged. This is often misrepresented as a "hivemind" because usually any conceivable topic has already been discussed to death at one point or another and so when it comes up again people stop supporting their arguments because they've done it so many goddamn times. Just look at the discussions of hated games (TOR. Thief 4, etc.) on /v/; everyone already knows the score so to the uninitiated it looks like a massive, groundless circlejerk of hate when it fact they just missed the brief discussion and arguments months ago when the talking points first arose. I consider that process an inherent trait of 4chan.

Then you haven't been paying attention. PETA is against all forms of animal usage by humans, including the fur trade, but also hunting, eating meat and all domestication of wildlife by humans, including keeping pets.
The occasional scandals of PETA activists slaughtering dogs at their shelters rather than placing them back with homes is a direct result of this ideology.

Never mind that Whitetail deer populations are now so high that many forests are virtually denuded of woody browse for other herbivores, the last stage before mass starvation sets in;
Never mind that it is the controlled population of whales that allows humans to harvest the vast amounts of fish that we do from the world's oceans;
Never mind that humans as predators are a part of nature and thus have the natural role of regulating other animal populations;

Also, the deer populations exploded because their natural predator populations aren't high enough.

That's correct, this picture did the rounds a few years ago on some of the Aussie fishing forums. There was a big thread on Ausfish about it (probably still on there if you want to look around.) The thing about this catch was that *all* of these fish came from farm dams, where they introduced as fingerlings a decade before. The catch had no bearing whatsoever on natural populations of yellas, which is good, because I was seeing red the first time I came across the picture.

Yeah I raged pretty hard when I saw it. I'm a fairly competent rec fisho, and regularly make trips out to the Condamine to target cod and yellas in conjunction with QLD DPI (fisheries), and I've seen enough to know how devastating a catch like that could be if it was carried out in a 'natural' environment. Luckily most serious freshwater (and saltwater) anglers here in Australia are very conservation-minded and practice conservation. Most major Australian freshwater species' populations (such as bass, cod, perch, barra and togas) are on a steady rise for the first time since European settlement. Pretty amazing when you consider the effects of introduced species (such as carp, redfin and tilapia) and agricultural industries.

Not the anon you're responding to, but good hunting is quite expensive. Uneducated losers can't afford it.

As to hunting things like birds and rabbits and deer, I stalk them then kill them with a shotgun. That's at least as common as setting up a tree stand or blind and sitting in it, both of which are common as well. In other words, hunting is just about exactly like it was at the turn of the 20th century, except that it's been continually more regulated since that time.

I'd think they'd make sure it was dead, much better for them than an animal waking up and squirming. It's not hard to kill an animal with a club, used to do it a lot when I trapped.

this

Argentina apparently has these massive flights of dove, and people go down there and shoot 500-600 shots per day for a weekend and end up with like 4-500 birds at the end of it all. the lodges there prepare the birds and serve them to the people, as well as give the food to the poor ass villagers around the lodge, shits fucking cash man i wish i could go....although shooting 1500 rounds in 3 days would end up fucking killing ur shoulder but im sure i could get through it

We went up to canada hunting waterfowl, we shot many boxes of ammo. I don't know how it kills your shoulder, they don't really kick.
If you ever get the chance, save your money, and go. Geese and ducks were coming at us so fast I couldn't even load 3 shells into my gun. Running to get downed ducks, diving down to hide from fliers, rolling across the ground to get behind some cover, sitting up to blast more.
I've never had more fun.

How many /out/smen goes /out/ alone?

I'm got an incredible urge to go out to the Lakes tomorrow but can't find anyone to go with (lol city living), so, I'm going on my own.

I was talking with a few friends about it, the responses:

lol that's weird why would you do that on your own?

omg that's so dangerous

hahah you gonna kill someone or something?

etc. etc.

Just wondering, how many of you go out alone?

Peta pays a lot of money to get blue collar chinks to skin animals alive on camera.
