SPAM Anonymous 06/22/14(Sun)10:19 UTC+1 No.336676 Report

Yesterday I went hiking with a friend and I tried spam for the first time. I loved it. We poked a hole on the can and trew it on some embers to heat it up, and eat it with some crackers.
So tell me /out/, do you like it?
How do you eat it? Do you heat it?
We found that by poking the hole at the top of the can, a LOT of the fat leaked, so it should be healthier I think.
>>
Anonymous 06/22/14(Sun)10:22 UTC+1 No.336678 Report

I think the can has a plastic lining so be careful.
I fry it up with eggs and rice.

There are a few different version too, bacon, black pepper and garlic .
I like garlic the best
>>
Anonymous 06/22/14(Sun)10:23 UTC+1 No.336680 Report

Plus the fat doesn't matter as you're burning it off hiking, it's a good energy dense food therefore lightweight.
>>
Anonymous 06/22/14(Sun)10:32 UTC+1 No.336682 Report

>>336678
Yeah I tought of that afterwards, but luckily the one we had didn't seem to have a plastic lining like the one on the pic.
We ate a beef version I think. Very tasty, somewhat like a blend of hot dogs with "foie gras"

Fats aren't bad for you.

Need your energy bro. You leaked energy all over those embers. Lame
>>
Anonymous 06/22/14(Sun)10:44 UTC+1 No.336686 Report

>>336684
Noted.
Anyway, we actually pocked the hole because it didn't seem clever to heat up a completly sealed can that we were going to open while hot. I think all that hot fat could be sprayed if we didn't do it.

Rank, gelatinous shit when cold. Camping breakfast of the gods when heated.
I was off it for years because my dad only ate it cold and I hated it. Plus there's the whole Something-Posing-As-Meat stigma from the war.
I love the stuff now.
Fries in its own juices if you're on a stove and everything tastes better when it's cooked on sticks over a fire.
Favourite /out/ breakfast is fried spam, powdered egg with black pepper and baked beans.
Also, if you've never had spam fritters then you haven't lived.

Fats are twice as energy-dense as carbs.

Carbs, fats, and proteins can and will be metabolized for energy as the body needs. The body does prioritize carbs though. Still, when you need to carry around the most energy in the least weight, fats are how you do it.

>>336847
No they don't. It's a simple energy in = energy out + weight difference equation.

It doesn't matter if it's carbs, fats, or proteins. If you don't use it as you eat it, it makes you fat.

I use nice salamis and summer sausage.
I was at camp one time I made a kebab with salami and dry land fish mushrooms and wild strawberries. I'm currently adding oarlock sockets to our 17' aluminum canoe so I can run us around a couple of the lakes up there faster than with paddles. We'll actually be camping at Arapaho Bay on Lake Granby. OP here, just do as i did, heat it on the can. You don't need to apply so much heat to burn the internal lining (if there is one. I bought another can, cheap brand, and was just zinc plated on the inside).
Don't listen to the guy bitching about cancer, many people forget that many of us use a billy can while /out/, and nobody has died because of that.

>Experiments were also conducted to investigate the potential effects, on the migration of BPA from can coatings, of cooking or heating foods in the can prior to consumption. Food cans were purchased and the food either cooked or heated in the can. BPA was analysed prior to and after the heating/cooking process. It was concluded from the results that there were no appreciable differences in the BPA level before and after cooking or heating.
