It's exactly the same in music (or any art form really); it's why will.I.am can produce platinum selling albums while many proper artists struggle, or why Michael bay can repeatedly get to no. 1 in the box office. Most people have no appreciation for what makes a good photo, and are distracted by the filter, the catchy hook or the cool explosion.

Except the is no such thing as an objectively good photograph. You can follow prescribed techniques well or poorly, but neither case necessitates the resulting image be good or bad overall.

I'm not fully a fan of the whole art is subjective so you can't judge it, and that isn't fully what I am arguing here, but more that most arguments against this and similar popular practices are just subjective stances presented as objective reasons that generally boils down to "is bad because a lot of people like it".

Come with real reasons it offends your sense of aesthetics. Otherwise you're just as bad, if not worse, than the unthinking masses who like what you think is bad.

>Except the is no such thing as an objectively good photograph.
Bullshit.
True there's no such thing as a universally loved photo, but good and bad photos are very easy to judge objectively. Good exposure, good balance, good subject, clear vision, good technique, and good post processing. I hate architecture photography, but it's still very easy to look at a photo of a building and know whether it's good or not.

Way to ignore the next sentence. Technically good photos are not necessarily good photos and technically bad photos aren't necessarily bad.

You have to spend money to make money. This is nearly universally true. Will you be able to make more than $1000 with a functioning camera? If so, then it's worth it to spend the $1000.
