My buddy was getting married. So I set up a photography lesson for him. The model was super nice and patient.

There are the photos I took.

The fact that the whole sandal isn't in the image fucks my autism.

If "catalog photography" is a good thing - this wins.

Also fucking my sensibilities is the fact the shack was built crooked. These fuckers don't understand vertical lines.

Anyhow... this image is not great but IS a small miracle that it's remotely in focus. Rangefinders hate this kind of thing.

Like 5hoe's pickle jars in front of the model - would totall disrupt 100 years of German engineering.

The amount of cropping and recovery in this are starting to show. But a disruption in the symmetry of the original makes me scratch my neck rapidly.

It's actually fine - but not what I wanted, so I hate it. But accept it. Like an alcoholic uncle.

The challenge here is getting that "under the covers" intimacy, but avoiding that "wide angle fucked perspective" This represents a fair compromise in my view. I took 3 frames of this. The other 2 are wildly out of focus.

My brain-stem reflex is to make sure the hands aren't cut off. I fucked it up, but the win here is that this is overhead, hard midday sun.

Anyway - not willing to 'shoop the hair on this one - and it's more glamour than fine art, but whatever. I like it.

2. Sandals

The hair makes it for me. It creates just a little bit of movement in the image.

It's between the ride pier and the place where you go to buy knockoff sunglasses. Probably near Ballys.

Different guy here, if you hate the photos so much why post them? I think they're acceptable (although totally not my style- I don't manipulate the light unless I'm using candid flash) but not great....

You're a nice guy it seems, with good equipment and obviously know more than the average /p/tard, but are you rushing your photos lately? You should take more care to get things right the first time and not try to crop and recover, make the crooked shack work (or don't take the shot), and take the extra few seconds to ensure that sandal is in the frame.

7.5/10 - good, but you are worth at least 8.75, if you applied yourself.

I would like the movement, in fact I like it with beach photos and attractive women.
But not across the face.

As far as lighting goes, this is my favorite.

The main flaw I see here is communicating with your model and devising a comprehensive theme throughout the pictures or an emotion in each picture. Take this for example:

http://www.imageamplified.com/2012/02/numero-magazine-kasia-struss-in-venice-beach-by-sebastian-kim-charles-varenne-march-2012-wwwimageamplifiedcom-image-am.html

Whether or not you like the images, this photographer is getting paid more than anyone on this board for his shoot because his images have:
>A common theme throughout the campaign
>A model whom is communicating some sort of emotion or drive. Picking up weights or intensely staring at a pole? I don't know, but it works.

All the pieces are there, you just have to grind and sand some down to make them fit into your main idea.

Please don't misconstrue. I actually like the Op image as-is. I don't hate these photos at all - these I'm fairly happy with. But none of them are a 10.

In my view, it's important to be self-critical. Not as a defense, but to generate discussion and present a balanced view. I do like these images - but there's something about each that I don't like. So, I post images like this, say what I like and say what I don't like. That's all.

>>2349388
That's sound advice, especially for sets or editorial shoots. For MM models, I find it better to give them completely different looks - a visual buffet - so they have some variety from a single session vs. providing them a narrative of "samey" images. I'd prefer them be able to use 2-3 shots in their portfolio without them appearing to be from the same shoot.
