Main issue is photo selection. You see something that makes you feel great, so you try to take a photo, but in the sequoias, a lot of the good feelings you get aren't from the visuals, but from the entire environment, so you have a lot of trouble capturing what you're feeling, and (should) find yourself disappointed by the end results.

>>2369961
Framed too low. The eye is drawn to the empty ground in the foreground with no real information or interest, and then the interesting textured area (the trees) is cropped off at the top. Though even if you had framed better, the photo is still pretty bland.

I was going to go through them individually, but it seems like the issues are pretty consistent. Lack of central point of interest, mixed with slightly poor framing which leaves distracting areas of contrast that draw the eye away from the interest that DOES get captured.

9/10 is a great example of a photo that really contains nothing to look at at all. The others have varying levels of the same issue.

>a lot of the good feelings you get aren't from the visuals, but from the entire environment, so you have a lot of trouble capturing what you're feeling,

This is something I definitely noticed. I wanted to take pictures of things, but every time I did I would realize that I didn't get the same feeling at all that I did when composing it.

This is because:

> you have 3 other senses as well as sight which contribute to your feelings at that moment

> you see in 3 dimensions, whereas the image is recorded in 2. close one eye when visualising composition. don't move though, or your 3D vision will be compensated by your brain.

> your brain can also compensate for different colour tints caused by shadows or harsh light to allow you to see the 'expected' colour of an object. a camera cannot.

Haha. Good suggestion.
> Also be warned: the internet is still overloaded with the technical people who invented it. These are the last people from whom you'd want to learn, since they are usually equipment fetishists, not artists. They happen to be the ones most likely to post websites or waste their time in photo chat rooms and user groups. Beware.

of the images you shared, a lot were taken either in overcast or mid-day light. While overcast can work sometimes, mid-day light is not great for landscapes. This is partly why I assume:

Edited your images into B&W

A few flaws you should keep in mind:
1. behind the person shots aren't interesting, it serves as a distraction sometimes, particularly if the individual is wearing something colorful in a overall subdued color scene.
2. Composition, you want to explore some of the rules particularly rule of 1/3s or going beyond them, and cropping out non-vital items in a scene.
3. Positive and Negative space, this also falls under composition as well.

Out of the images, I found this one to be the most interesting of the bunch:
