Alternately, Night Vale setting general. Really dig this surreal horror/dark humor podcast, and think it'd be a neat setting for a RPG of some sort, especially now that it's got an ongoing plot kicking in.

I always figured him to be entirely generic (not too tall but not too short, not too thin and not too thick, etc.) and as such completely unremarkable. I also figured everyone in the town resembled more-or-less average Americans that were just in a crazy as fuck horrifying place. People that would fit into The Big Lebowski or something. Not all mutated or whatever. Having them be all warped and odd removes the appeal, for me, of average people in a strange place pretending its normal. It just becomes strange people in a strange place

This reminds me of something I was trying to do and failed, so I might as well post it for TG's perusal:

Does anyone think a Welcome to Night Vale story game would be possible? Not an rpg with player characters, but some kind of means of generating the surreal madness of a day of Night Vale news and progressing a couple bizarre storylines to wrap up neatly after everyone fights over what music to play for the Weather.

I think it would just sort of descend into raw, lawless improv territory though. The only thing I could think of was just using the rules from Baron Munchausen, only having players introduce complications as eye witness reports or something while each player does a segment (possibly with content generated via story cubes because I have some laying around).

Does it get any better?
I've tried giving the first few episodes a listen but they're all so... bland. Flat. Boring.
They try so hard to be nonchalantly surreal it's like they try too hard, and it just falls into "boring" territory.
And I loved Homestuck and was even a frequenter of one of the IRCs and the forums prior to the introduction of the trolls, so it's not like I don't like this sorta style of nonchalant ridiculousness.
Also I don't really get the hubbub about the guy's voice either. Not really that great nor deep.

Night Vale is, for me, not something suited to listening to with rapt attention. It's good background noise if you're doing something with your hands or that doesn't require a lot of thought. Some episodes are better than others, but if you've tried several and it doesn't seem to be for you then it's probably just not your thing.

The live show recordings are a lot more engaging, but they build off the regular episodes so much that listening to one of those recordings would just be confusing.

NVR was good in the beginning but then they started taking fan stories, SJW got involved and some of the extra recurring characters are really terrible, especially the female VA's. After a while they sort of fell into the same routine and the amount of quality stories really went down. It started out great but I found it went more or less to shit.

At episode one I had Carlos pegged as a mesmer of some sort, so powerful a force of character the town worshipped him. "Time's fucked up." And the whole town believes him, "There's a house that isn't a house, trust us, we have science." And the whole God damn town believes him. The Tully the Barber cuts Carlos's hair and the whole town makes him go mad.

Then it turns out, Cecil's just gay and rather than explore anymore of the possibility that Carlos has a 10 dot presence score, Cecil just tries to go on dates with him while Carlos does science and Oh aren't they cute? Fucking tumblr

Eeew. I had no idea they were doing that. Helps explain the downward trend in quality recently.

I've noticed references to facebook, twitter, etc in some of the recent episodes. I wish they hadn't done this. I like to think of Nightvale as this insulated bubble of 1950s style Twilight Zone weirdness. The notion that the residents have access to the World Wide Web, and sit around looking at cat pictures, breaks a key aspect of the setting for me.
