“Ah!” you say, after drinking some water. Your machine had been repaired, and resupplied, and you had been rehydrated. It was a tense 5 minutes as your dropship's repair teams worked on hot swapping components, installing new motors, and in some cases, outright tearing through damaged armor plating.

“Ok Commander,” you hear from a tech, “All systems are green, but you have some new updates about the battle.”

You look at the large viewscreen in the lower bay.

“This is the 101st, We are pressing forward but//

“ITS A NUKE!”

The nuclear weapon flies its terminal path, only to be intercepted by an old plane, a F-22E, at its terminal phase. “We need to press onwards!” the soldier says, as his tank division moves forward, before the video stops.
“With that last nuke, Israel has voted to commence a final nuclear assault, and they have given us 20 minutes. The Russians and Americans have agreed to this as well.. so we have a new objective. We are going to fly to their command center, kidnap their leaders, steal information, and get ou. Instead of the final assault, it looks like we get a dangerous special forces mission with a .. 30 minute timeline before the nuclear bombers flatten everything.” Your advisor takes a breath, "This situation really has fallen apart. hasn't it," the man says, as he turns off the monitor.
You take it all in for a moment. “Wait wait wait.. they are using nukes?”

“Apparently, the 1000 Kg brains say if a side uses nuclear weapons, the only rational response is to use nukes.. so an entire fleet of nuclear weapons has been approved. So you get to play escort to special forces who are trying to find this group's leadership." Your advisor waits for a response..

“Do we have any ship support?” you ask.

“Fleetcom won't want anything in range, so we will only have an old style spaceplane, its been up armored with all the spare plates and shields we could get..” you hear the hum of a large patrol craft in the distance.

“And armor support?”

“You have some elites from the home defense force, but you've been authorized 1 wing (7 pilots), in addition to Fatima. Oh, by the way. The french girl is doing fine. Our medics have her stabilized, and she'll be transferred back to the French in hours.”

You breath a sigh of relief. This was going to be a bit easier.

New Squad now available.

With a squad, you can act as a leader, and order your squad of armors to act. With 4 pilots, you can either order them to act individually, (using 1d20), or combine their successes (roll 4 1d20s, and add them), in order to acomplish goals.

“So, who's my squadmates?”

You choose from different squads, before you finalize your selection.

The newest girl, someone fresh from the Martian Training Facality, bows as she says, “Hi. Specialist Mina, assigned to the Frigate “Enforcement Action. Pleased to meet you!” she seems stiff enough, but on paper, she has excellent melee skills, and slightly mediocre ranged talents.

Your two veterans grin, “So I get to work with the Red ace,” Nevah says , “Good to see ya,” you shake her hand. The Lieutenant had an excellent record clearing out pirates and conducting boarding operations, as well as her role on the Ringworld's exploration and reconinance squadron. She used shotguns, and an energy rifle, an unusual tool on planets.

“And I'm Quickshot, but my normal name is Susan. I'm from Earthside security, so I normally assist in our Pacacif fleet's operations, though this sort of thing isn't bad.” She offered you a fistbump, which you gladly returned. She was a heavy gun user, her armor based on a Su-25, was heavily armored, and had several anti Fortress guns mounted onto shoulders.

Your clone smilees, “I am the lady of the night, the Vampire.. I am Lady Kyila, of the Invisible squadrons,” gher armor had the built in cloaking devices common to stealth fighters, and from what you could tell, her weapon was a long ranged particle launcher, and a particle sword.. with two largre emmiters on her back. They were some sort of Aether Field device, but they had other properties which you had only hard rumors.

“Well then,” you say, “Our mission is simple. Reach the vampire command center, get in, kidnap targets, collect info, and get out before the nukes go off and kill us all with radiation. Got that?”

You get a chorous of understood as you...

Your shuttle travels across the desert plains, and you quickly find yourself accompanied by several fighters.

“UYPV craft, this is Falcon 1, we are letting you know the airspace you are flying into is restricted due to imminent nuclear strikes. We have been ordered to escort you out.”

“Let me handle this,” one of your pilots says, “Pilot, this is a message from your own special operations command. Tell them I'm picking up the package as ordered, and you are to provide support since this shuttle can't exactly fight.”

There is a pause, before another voice is heard over the line. “This is NATO AWACS plane Oversight, and we can confirm you are being ordered to escort the UYPV plane, callsign Evacuation, to its destination. There should be no fighter resistance, and the UYPV craft will refuel you midflight. Good hunting.”

“Sorry,” the pilot says, “Sometimes information isn't free, you know?” you laugh, as you approach the pickup site and...

“Deploying ropes!” you hear, as the rear hatch opens. You slow down to around 125 knots, and you set down several ropes. The long cables tangle, but one does make it in down, and you manage to retrive the special forces... and 2 armor pilots, badly wounded but still breathing.

“Thanks,” the man says, his face covered in a full mask, “I'm Staff Sergeant Reeds, these two were recon pilots..” You look around, “So, our mission was to prevent the nuclear war, but we were ambushed,” You notice the ruins of an entire battalion, “It was a trap.. and we think they might be waiting for you if you get there.. here is our intel,”

The man puts a paper map down on a storage box, as you look over the information. There are several well hidden missile launchers on all landing points.. meaning you would have to clear them before you could land. How would you approach this site...

This craft is so heavily armored to handle a near impact from a nuclear weapon they tossed away the cloak to make sure it could still fly.
Your medics were working on the two pilots, and their injures were bad, but not lethal. Burns from lasers, and falling injuries from hitting the ground, loss of blood, and broken legs. They could be stablized, but you would need to escape to get them treated.

“Everyone,” you say, “I have an idea. We are going to go cloaked, and raid the missile stations. Special forces..” you say to the staff sergant, who is cleaning off his gun, “Ready for one last ride?”
the man grins, “You know it,” he says, “Team, lets go for this,” the troops shout, and you all prepare to drop.

The fast ropes go down, and while you head out with your squad, the SF troopers head down onto the sand, their small size and movements making then effectively invisible to infrared. It was a quiet attack, as you encountered the first missile station and..

“Charges, on each target,” you say, as you point to the machine. You manage to place charges on one, as you get a flash code from the special forces. “Charges set.. and ready.” You hover towards the next station, and set charges when you hear a voice.

“Damn!” the woman says, “They have cloaking! I told them they should have used the dogs, they can sniff them..” she says, before her leg fails... but instead of blood, a white, pressurized fluid pours out.

“Cybernetics,” the staff sergeant says on your open channel, “Code GITS..” The squad surrounds her, and fires a heavy series of shut from the underslung grenade launcher, the electric nets capturing her.

“What was that for, she was ours,” you say.. before she tears off the net, and grins.

Infiltrate your world, fund a megacorp, plant some weapons here and there, and trigger the collapse of humans through internal conflict, followed by a purge.. but you humans are too damn stubborn to take the bait!” she shouts. “Now I'll just have to kill you myself!” she shouts, as you feel the ground shake.

“Universal constructors are glorious..” she says, “they allow us to design anything from random materials. Including a GATE TO EARTH.. We will invade, and kill you all. Those peaceful idiot AI.. “Then I will drain her batteries,” Kycilia says, taking to the air. Her machine seems to violate physics as it turns on an invisible axis, weaving around Laura's now damaged body..
“What? That is impossible! Humans can't defeat machines.. Organics are not superior..”

“Shut up, you servant of metal,” she says, as she holds her body down.

Quickshot fires several shots with Fatima acting as a spotter, the stunning bullet, which drives a bit of computronium, which sent shutdown signals into her body. She was now, offline.. but there was still the gate matter.

“Hey,” you see familiar faces, Dacia, Gabriel, and Sophia on the transport.

“We flew from the moon as soon as we heard, newbie!” You remember seeing those three when you were on lunar training. They were the UYPV's foremost experts on AI and cybernetics, so they could help you..

After a quick midair transfer, you noticed Sophia placing a computer on a desk.

“So, looks like its time to play interface,” she says, as she plugs a cable into Laura's spine. “I didn't expect this to be honest.. but it does explain where Ameristar got the idea to fund pirates..”

The typical machine fleet tactics involves a huge fleet, to overwhelm foes with smaller sized craft. However, they also focus on boarding actions, using drones to kill crews. As well as infiltration. In the ancient war, they relied on inflitrators, at least, until the First Race became a hivemind to prevent inflitration.

Machine tactics involve key algorithms, and do not use gates, however, with Earth's dependence on Gates, they have now desginated Gates a kritical part of human infrastructure.

Machine tactics rely on the weaknesses of organics as well, as biological and chemical warfare were approved multiple times in their ancient wars.
