So, I only really collected the original line when it came out, but Gali was the female one, right? Why was it Pohatu that had the child-bearing hips? They could've used a similar motif as Pohatu's kicking to create a "swimming" type action, surely?

I suppose the hunched-over look of having the body that way around would kinda spoil the femininity...

Because Gali's main gimmick was rock-climbing.

Also, I read somewhere that it was a last-minute decision to make her a woman, so likely most of the set design was already done by that point.

Lego hates femininity. No female set looked feminine. It's been asked many times in the past and they've said it wouldn't sell. I think the market is ready now but the company either afraid it's not appropriate for a kid's toy or that it'll be sexist.

Wasn't there some sort of minor backlash when they released Roodaka? A few years back, I came across some posts claiming that there was, and that this is the reason why later female toys weren't made to look all too feminine, but I have no idea if this is legit or not.

Sucks that the rest of the Toa Mata game models are so elusive. They were supposed to be playable, but their levels got scrapped before release.

On a similar note, can you rip any of the Turaga models? I'm mostly interested in Nokama because her model was absolutely messed up -- the textures on her mask were replaced with a red blob and the animation bones were clearly visibly clipping through her model.

I heard Lalam once posted instructions for his Toa. Does anyone have them?

Btw, I've run into a few issues. First off, most of the models are broken into many pieces that use many textures rather than a unified one. Pohatu Mata for example uses 19 textures. It's also a bother to repose them.
Second, not all models are to scale with eachother. Scaling them properly takes time and it's not 100% accurate.

Kongu and Pohatu are the only ones with different builds. Matoro Mahri too I guess. Everyone else is on a Piraka or Inika body and reuse of MANY pieces introduced in 06 was very common.

Yes, most years had very little variation within the individual waves but year to year and wave to wave there was substantial growth and change, aside form the Nuva and Bohrok Kal. By the end of it all people were tired of seeing the same two bodies used as the basis for every character. CCBS is a huge improvement in that regard.

All that aside, if we're only looking at the Toa from 06-09, I agree that the Mahri were pretty nice.

Glatorian>Mahri>Mistika>Inika IMO.

I managed to get all the Nuva growing up except for Tahu (again dammit). Ended up getting him along with the Mata in 2009 I believe. I basically have this thing captain ahab thing going on with any variation of Tahu.

What makes me feel the most is I distinctly remember being in Walmart when I was younger and seeing so many Mata. Mom promised she would get me one then for some reason didn't by the end of the day. Our nearest Walmart is an hour and 20 mins away and my weird ass family never ordered anything because "muh identity might be stolen!11!" so that was pretty much that.

mom i love you but this is your fault

I remember reading someplace that the Skakdi ate with their mouths and other species found it gross and uncivilized. Can't remember if this was ever stated in canon, but I saw it repeated multiple times on forums.

Technically, all of them are capable of eating (at least those that have a mouth), like in that scene when Nokama ate the antidote that the Karzahni plant gave her, and there's also a line in one book about Onua and Whenua sharing a meal, but absorbing energy is more convenient for them.

Maybe because it would take too long, kinda like if a human soldier wanted to defeat his enemy by eating him alive on the battlefield? I dunno, that's just a guess, they never really explained any of this.

Also, Kapura can fart. So, he probably does eat things regularly from time to time, unless he can convert raw energy to gas.
>>
Anonymous 08/15/14(Fri)21:01 UTC+1 No.4359117 Report

>>4359104
Jaller was killed with fear-power, and Lhikan's death was kinda vague. Makuta grabbed his shield and somehow that affected him.

But I just remembered, the black Rahkshi does drain Onua's energy in the first movie till he collapses, but he's back on his feet a minute or two later. So if the Rakhshi of Hunger couldn't kill him under seconds, I doubt a regular being would be able to suck away another's energies that easily.

I do miss dumping all my Bionicles into the tub and having a massive undersea battle there. Shit was cash.
On the flipside, I like how they could be used as turrets and came with excess ammo, even if the extra amount varied with the Toa you bought. I really wish they had that in more of the launchers

I saw a goodwill and HAD to hit it up since I'm new on the Bionicle train.
There was these two giant piles of shit where you filled a bag of stuff in those piles for three bucks, and I saw some bonkle/HF stuff.
Most is HF, but I wouldn't say it's a bad haul considering I picked those bins clean of every. single. part. and filled two bags up.
So $6 for all this stuff was awesome.

The new sets worry me tbh. I don't like how everyone seems to have bits of gold on them which of course will be used to build Takanuva I'm sure. That or just golden armor, I dunno. But regardless, why can't they just come with the gold as extra pieces? I realize we don't know ANYTHING yet, but they're all shown with their gold on the box art. So we'd have to take them apart JUST to equip whoever with the armor/build takanuva. I'd rather buy takanuva separately as opposed to having 6 other sets with a damn rainbow color scheme that we'd have to disassemble just to get the 7th set.

tl;dr - the gold on the new sets better be spare pieces and not part of the color scheme
