DC General Anonymous 07/30/14(Wed)08:59 UTC+1 No.4323042 Report

I don't get why we don't have this like we do Marvel Generals. They license more to toys I guess.

Well, to start, how about this little series? I have Batman and the Talon and think they're good for the price. Now I'm looking to get a Nightwing figure and the one from the same series looks pretty good, but there's one thing holding me back. I think blue is a better color for Nightwing, even though red is my favorite color. Are there any modern ones with the blue scheme?

I think it was because they had shitty figures till' now. DC direct stepped their game up, a bunch of people stepped up to the plate and hit it outta the park, and most importantly, Matty is dead. At least I hope he is.

Glad the DC crowd is finally getting good stuff.

What do you think...are these going to sell like crazy? I know I really want one. What scale is this?
>>
Anonymous 07/30/14(Wed)10:29 UTC+1 No.4323122 Report

>>4323109
It's ~6" or 1:12 scale.
$60-80.

As for how popular it will be... who knows. This is Mezco's first try with super articulated dolls in this scale and most collector's don't appreciate different things. Almost violently so.

They won't be hard to find though, i can tell you that. Just watch out when they stop producing them, since prices can balloon up very high. They can be common as fuck one year, even go on clearance everywhere, and two years later: BAM! $100 for something that sold for $10.
So if you want one, get it. Don't wait just because you think they're plentiful now and will be plentiful later.

A friendly reminder that these will be out this year.
Still I'm gonna wait a year and buy them cheaper in a collection "4 pack". That way I at least profit 2 figures.

I really, really want to like these, but I'm bummed that a bunch of them are the New Batman Adventures designs as opposed to the original TAS. Also, they look really, really static to me despite having a decent amount of joints, and I imagine posing will be a real chore with those tiny-ass feet.

So, I'm more of a Marvel person, but lately I'm getting into DC stuff and I want some figures, though the only ones I always see have some pretty shitty articulation (fucking T crotch). Can someone enlighten me? I want decently articulated 1:12 stuff and not statues with moveable arms, but I simply don't know how to find them.

If you're looking for a Nightwing figure with a blue symbol instead of red, this figure will be coming out later this year. Doesn't look like there is any ankle articulation though, and the figure has a pretty stylized look compared to some of the other New 52 or Capullo Designer Series.

DCUC is not exactly what I'd call a "great" line, but it's acceptable enough if you're not being too picky. They have an appropriate amount of joints and can strike some halfway decent poses. And no, this is not a t-crotch, it just looks like it. It's capable of outwards movement too. Using said outwards movement does create some ugly gaps in the upper thigh, but eh, it's what they chose to do.

They reuse bodies WAY too much, even when it doesn't quite fit the character, and the joint setup ain't perfect, but they are pretty decent toys and not "statues with moveable arms."

I find it funny every time someone says this. They've been active for like six years now, produced hundreds of figures, and are pulling down some of the biggest licenses in the game (MGS, Halo, Ma.K, Valve, Microman, Marvel, and DC to name a few). Sure, Mezco's been around longer, but I don't think ThreeA's been an "up and comer" for quite a while now.

I like to believe it is because marvel has somehow always been the more childish and playful one of the two, while DC is somewhat edgier and cooler big brother. Hence people interested in Marvel are often the kind of people who are interested in toys.

Also: Even though I have no Idea who that character is, the owldude looks cool.

For one, Mezco sculpted its own unique body for the toy. They're not just reusing a simple doll body like 3a does and adding armor/padding over that.
Two: It's a licensed figure, so that adds to the cost.
C. That $60-80 might just be the MSRP set by Mezco, so discounts can and usually are given by retailers to customers.
• Mezco is higher quality and doesn't just rely on paint washes to detail their figures, which requires higher QC to be accurate.

I don't want to sound vague, but simply what's a good Superman figure? I've looked at several from DCUC but I don't really like those. Ideally, I'd want one based off Quintley's work in All-Star Superman since it's the first I read of him and my favorite. I also like Tim Sale's Superman, despite a weird babyface.

I'm going to get the new Reeve Superman either way. I just sat down and watched the whole movie recently and really liked it.

I'm usually the first person to be calling doll clothing the worst shit ever, but i do not mind spandex.
It doesn't have that bunched-up stiff look and huge stitching everywhere that other dolls clothes have.

I'm worried about their Judge Dredd because who knows if they're going to go for spandex or some typical stiff fabric, since his design goes either way.

Hey DC General.

So long story short I am a really huge Green Lantern fan (Hal Jordan is my favorite, but I am a pretty big fan of John, as well as a lot of the more alien members of the Corps: Not so much Kyle and Guy though) and I am wondering what are some of the best Green Lantern figures? Normally I am not a big collector of American figures, and when I see a lot of the Green Lantern figures in my LCS I am a bit underwhelmed by the apparent Articulation. I know with Mattel being the helmsmen for DC Action Figures for years things have been lacking across the board but I really want a decently expressive GL without breaking the bank.

The closest thing I have seen to what I want in a Green Lantern figure is the New 52 Super Alloy, but I don't want to spend 300 bucks on one figure, especially when I don't have the space for 1/6th.

I'm a big fan of Bane, and you have a couple of options.

The DC Superheroes one is the oldest. It has a great sculpt, its sculpt is slightly preposed but surprisingly versatile in articulation. The only problem is that its arguably a little short. It's slightly taller thanthe DCUC/DCSH Batmans, but could stand to be bigger.

The DC Universe Classic Bane, which is a C&C/BAF, is much, much bigger. Well-articulated, good sculpt, huge and beefy. I really wish he had at least one open hand, since, you know, it's Bane. It could be argued that he's a little TOO tall, since he towers above other DCUCs.
>>
Anonymous 08/07/14(Thu)17:23 UTC+1 No.4340958 Report

>>4340955
And finally, I also like the Arkham Asylum Bane. Much more stylized than the other two, but there's something satisfyingly 90's about the absurdly huge Bane. Again, surprisingly well-articulated. Huge and sturdy. If you have the Marvel Select Juggernaut, he reminds me of that. Not quite as heavy, but still a massive, massive figure.

>>4340953
... I'm not listing EVERY Bane figure, just recommending some good ones. Out of the ones I'm recommending, DC Superheroes Bane is the oldest one by far.

Been wanting to get my hands on a good Batman figure to set-up a Batman theme case.
I was walking around the mall's comix book store where they sold some great looking figs of Batman, but pricy as hell, I'm pretty sure I seen some of these old bat toys cheaper online, and not worth $500 a pop.

I'm really looking for a greatly detail figure of the Bat, and villains'.

I found a DCC figure of Nightwing from Arkham City. On one hand, it has nice detail and looks practical, plus it's the blue I want. On the other hand, he looks like a big deuche.

I think I might get the Designer Series one and try painting it blue. I have the Batman and Talon from the wave so it'll match the aesthetic.

Like the old school HQ, but not too sure on how well the cartoon style translates to figure form. Worth getting? I definitely want Bats, and am interested in Deathstroke. Bats is $22 + shipping most places, so getting him off Amazon, which has him for 28 with free shipping seems like a good idea. Deathstroke is really overpriced on Amazon right now, but I assume he will drop down to similar prices when he gets re-released. Don't let the hive mentality of this place get to you.
PAKs arn't nearly as bad as some people make them out to be.

I will admit the PAKs of characters with out anything on there legs like cammy or chun li ar pretty bad.

But ANY and i mean any character with armour looks positively bad ass. The bad knees are only a problem for people who can't pose for shit and the paint is never as bad as people make it out to be, They find a a few pictures of some bad ones (honestly some of the pictures floating about are of factory fuck ups that don't hit the market) make a collage and call e'm bad.

y advice? If you can see them in person first you will never have a problem at all with them.

I have about 10 different PAKs from different lines and they are awesome and more than fine, just be careful not to over spend.

He's big and has some weight to him (which I like). Poseability is decent. Tthe accessory swap thing is a nice feature, and the plug things aren't too noticeable when you swap them out. Because of taste and they are signed/have original art. JL is singed by Jim Lee and I chose that issue because it was one of the main promotional images for the Con I went to. The ASM 700 is singed by Stan Lee to go along with my ASM 1 also singed by Stan. Harley Quinn is pretty bad but I like the original art I got for it. I have since rearranged some stuff since that pic though so different books are behind them now.

>>4362771
In all honesty they are all pretty awesome. Flash GL Bats and Supes are obviously stand outs. They all have amazing paint jobs, GL's ring hand even has a green tinge to it to represent the glowing ring. I also think Aquaman and Cyborg also look really cool.

>>4362788
Wonder Woman is the only one that looks kinda of weird to me. I think its the super light skin tone but otherwise she's OK

I am very happy with this JL team especially how it captures the Jim Lee New 52 reveal look. They look great up on my shelf with my Avengers and X-Men.

What the hell are you trying to say? If I buy PAK, they'll become less shit? Tell me just how that works? Especially with quality going down as prices rise since the initial Peace Walker figures? The only way PAK is going to improve is if collectors decide to not put up with poor quality figures, and Square realizes they need to up their game.

I can afford them, I just choose not to waste my money on overhyped and overpriced figures that have undeniably bad QC issues and articulation cuts. I'll stick with my Figuarts, Figmas, and DCD figures, thanks.

They're infamous around /toy/ for having good licenses and sculpts, but muddy paint, ugly joints, and poor quality control. Their high price tends to make people very vocal about not getting them, as most Japanese brands beat them in the paint, poseability and fragility departments for half the price. Of course, the fans of them are also very vocal too, due to them making so many popular characters.

I say read as many worthwhile reviews as you can, find how he fares in terms of QC issues, and get a good look at him in person. If he's still worth it to you pick him. And when I mention the reviews being worthwhile, I mean it. It seems many toy reviewers are ignorant to the flaws of these guys, or maybe just don't know how much better quality Figma and Figuarts are. I've seen a toy reviewer call them museum quality, which is a bold faced lie. They're $40 dollar toys masquerading as $80 dollar ones.

Pic related is an example of their muddy paint apps. This somehow sold for $60.

I'm almost positive that PAKs sell better than Figuarts, since they've been sold in the US in many stores since when they were just sold as Play Arts.

>>4365276
You'll have to excuse the idiocy, since people liek that also buy shit of popular characters because "it's the only time they'll ever make it ever and never again"
It's supporters like them that is the reason why Mattel still holds the DC license.

>>4365490

You must have some really poor standards if you value something with shit paint apps and odd proportions.
IT's a $0 value toy, because i wouldn't pay anything for a poorly made toy.

Oh don't misunderstand, I wouldn't buy any current PAK figures for $40 dollars, considering how flawed they are. What I mean is, even if their QC, paint, and proportions were better, they still wouldn't be an $80 toyline. They don't offer anything more than other $40 dollar toylines. I still don't understand how they feel they can charge that much. The awkward scale certainly doesn't justify.

I displayed this guy up and just left him there. The figure looks great. It's just one of those things you shouldn't mess around with much.
Also Once I put his sword in his sheath I couldn't pull it out without feeling like it would snap. So its staying there. be wary
