For those planning to purchase this, and assuming the memo hasn't already been sent out, the head piece is considerably more transparent than the preview images would suggest.

Anonymous 06/15/14(Sun)12:40 UTC+1 No.4230151 Report

Bandai lying their asses off isn't anything new and it's why i'm glad Bluefin handles most of their releases now so I can wait for reviews. Sometimes the changes are for the better like SHF Gaim getting the old style joints back instead of figma peg hinges. Or SRC GGG getting some improvements in the second revision.

Usually you end up with something inferior though like in the cases of numerous Figuarts Zero releases (changed sculpts and paint), the SHMA Big Chap (super clear dome), Composite Ver Ka GL (removed metallic paint) and various SHF (removed diecast feet, warped legs, cloudy visors, etc).

That's not to say other lines haven't done this at times as well. Bandai just does it a lot more frequently. Mainly because they refuse to delay shit even when they know they probably have an issue that should be fixed.

Why? Like I get it for some that'll just be bought out on day one, but Venus, Frieza, and Big Chap wouldn't be ones to instantly sell out. Just wait until it gets its Asian release, go over some reviews, and then decide by the time it's up on Amazon.

What was a lie was Bandai showing chrome on the (old Kabuto) Figuarts like what Kick/PunchHopper had on the official pictures.

Because collector figures will cost more than childrens toys in places like WalMart.
So to give the toy more value, they up the size, which is actually very cheap for them to do.

DCD, Diamond Select, and sometimes Mezco also release larger than mass retail figures.

McFarlane bucks the trend by making smaller figures for cheaper, but generally have high quality paint and more articulation too.

Detail is basically the same no matter the scale though.

Godzilla, maybe due to the license or wanting to fit it in a sub-$20 price point or both, might be the one time NECA's gone with a 6" scale, so he's way off compared to the Jaegers. He should be as large as Trespasser to be in proper scale.

I guess I am more thinking the Xenos are in fine scale with NECA humans.

Neca's humans are about 7". The Predators are about 7.5"~8". The Xenos are about 9". You don't even really see Xenos straight-up standing up ever in the movies anyway. They're always crouching/crawling/squatting down. So, the Xenos are pretty in-scale with what the need to be (the characters from their own franchises.)

On the other hand, the Jeagers and Godzilla aren't really from the same franchise at all, and there are some pretty obvious liberties that were taken with some of those figures to scale building-size characters down to the size of a "human" anyway.

Since Bandai did such a fantastic job of tricking me into buying Monsterarts Big Chap, I'm looking around to see what my alternatives are. Not interested in their Alien warrior because it looks shitty and I prefer something closer to the classic design anyway. I'm seeing NECA's Series 1979 Alien, a Revoltech one, and a Cult Classics. Which of these is going to be the best in quality? I am willing to sacrifice a bit of poseability for the sake of looking decent.

From reading this thread I now know that the head piece comes off, so I figure I could probably spray-paint it a little to make it look more like what I was expecting. But, given my track record for doing anything ever, I'd probably fuck that up and then it would lose all monetary value. So let's see what my options are first.

NECA
- Cheap
- Heavy
- Covered in gobs of paint, if that's your idea of ideal paint apps
- Brown-ish
- Matte finish

REVOLTECH
- A little more expensive
- Poseable (if you don't mind clicky joints -- keep in mind the Big Chap revoltech has a pretty upright posture)
- Sprayed paint, if that's your idea of ideal paint apps
- Translucent plastic
- Shiny

If that's good enough for the special effect artists who made the Alien and Aliens movies, then it's good enough for NECA.
It's a paint wash and it looks great, translating for more movie accurate paint jobs.

BTW, another plus point for the NECA: if you're a fan of the Alien series, there's a lot of toys that are in scale with them being released by NECA. Marines, Ripley, the rest of the miners, androids, expanded universe stuff, and the upcoming Queen.

they're usually pretty good at scale, even if they're not exact. And they do fudge it up sometimes, but that's mostly because they reuse bodies.
They have released Spider-Man figures under 6", both in MLs and his Spider-Man Classics line.
It's a rough scale, rather than saying "Here's the alien figure. He's 6" tall. Enjoy"

NECA, MS, and DCD are rather good at scale, since they have to create new bodies and have been using the same scale for a years

Love me my bandai chap, but the dickhead has his share of problems. Yes, the dome is too clear, that's been apparent since forever, but people seem to be glazing over some of its other major flaws.

Firstly, the head can't turn side to side freely. The secondary mouth engineering gets in the way, and it won't be able to hold a sideways head pose for long before snapping back into place. The revoltech can swing its head around in most all directions, so this is a massive failure on part of the monsterarts.

Next up, the skull inside the dome likes to touch the dome's plastic at certain pointy places, and where they meet some unsightly splotches show up. This is terrible. It shouldn't be happening.

Next, another issue to do with the secondary mouth. It loves to slide around inside, getting in the way of the primary mouth fully closing at the most inopportune moments in a photoshoot. It also takes a lot of fucking effort to fish out of there, at least for my chap.

Finally, bandai chap's color in general is just all wrong. Visually speaking it's a fucking jojo style colorswap where the Big Chap decides to wear Alien Ressurection colors. it photographs well in darker lighting, like a lot of people have been saying, but it just looks so very -naked- in harsher light.

BUT it is still the most articulate chap in the market, and possesses a bandai figure's signature swagger. The revoltech may have the advantage in range for certain joints (as is the case for Wolf vs Revoltech Jungle Hunter and AvP Warrior vs Revoltech Warrior), but the SHM Chap just pulls off the signature poses so much better. Smoother joints and modern engineering make for a non-raeg inducing posing experience, as well.

>>4235064

I'm on the fence for the tail. I like how it looks in certain poses, but you'll need stand support to get it up for fancier ones. The only reason I don't put it down as a con is because I fucking hate rubber-on-wire engineering on tails.

I don't quite know what to make of Bandai AvP as of Chap. They started the line phenomenally with Warrior, flopped a bit with Wolf, and continue to do so with Chap. Wolf and Chap are by no means -terrible- figures, but they do have flaws you'd think bandai would be able to address in this day and age, given the slim pickings for competition.

If your choice is between the revo and the NECA, and you just care for the figure itself, I recommend the revo, it's not as expensive as the MA BUT more poseable than the NECA, the dome is the better looking too, all 3 figures do something really well, but I feel the revo has a good balance.

I don't much care about collectos stuff and posability so long as it can both pull off iconic poses and can hold poses that capture the feeling the source creates.

Are there any third party joints I could buy that are a bit smoother that can fit on revoltechs, just as a general question? I've never had a Revo before, but I've never been too crazy about those snapping joints.

Sure is tard who doesn't remember the movie and trying to make others think it looked liek a Kenner toy.

You can see all that glistening dripping wet slime on the face, but it's not on the body.

Monster Arts? More like Manlet Arts.
I don't know why, but the silver is really making me want to buy this figure, even if i think it sucks, I just really like silver.

Might get the Bandai Big Chap at some point. He's already hitting NECA Prices at $23 on Amazon.jp and already $14 off on Amazon.

He'll dip down again. The figure is pretty awful so they'll have plenty of extra stock.

You're either american or have a fetish for being ripped off if you actually buy necas. The neca chap has every single shitty aspect of the monsterarts while managing to have an even WORSE dome, and runs just about the same price for anybody outside of the united farteating states.

Ive only been considering it because A: its really big, and B: Its cheap. I like the monster arts warrior alien, but not sure I like it enough to drop $47 on it.....

But if the neca is just gonna break right out of the box on me, then fuck it, id rather keep the $18 and just the enjoy the pictures that you guys post.

Disappointing maybe, but still pretty solid, wouldn't say it's awful.

How the fuck can you? The necas are pretty terribly painted, and the people who buy them often can't photograph for shit, what with being american.

I'm going to step in here and tell you the awful truth.
I have three big chaps, why? because i don't trust in any of your neckbeard raging opinions or insights. The first chap i bought was the NECA for about 20 bucks i guess. It is a cool toy, but nothing fancy. Then i get a shipping of the Revoltech and the Monsterarts Chaps. The monsterarts one is pure shit, i dont even like the stupid clumsy low quality dome. I liked the revoltech a little better, to be hones poseability is not essential for me. But after buying those two, i have to say, neca did a better job overall, i have that big chap in display, the other two i put them away in their boxes. Sorry for upsetting any of you anti NECA no lifers, but this time they did a decent job.

Nooooooo, you can't compliment NECA, do you know what you've done? You've got at least 30 hits out on you now! Hssssssssss, what a world, what a woooooorld....

>i dont even like the stupid clumsy low quality dome

that's what one is supposed to like? everybody hates that part, would make more sense if you didn't like the articulation, which would be strange.

I own all 3 too, and they all do something good while fail on something else, NECA's main asset is looks, and it's still not perfect, his feet are too big and his torso too short, not to mention the obvious white dome, I personally prefer the revo as a whole a little lanky, but has the dome down and a decent range of articulation.

I like all 3 figures for different reasons tho.
