Getting rid of weird odour? Anonymous 06/18/14(Wed)02:59 UTC+1 No.4234520 Report

So I do a lot of online toy trading, and recently I received a storage shell Raphael (pic related) as part of a trade. When I received the package and unpacked everything, I realised there was a strange, almost musty/dank odour wafting from Raphael. It wasn't necessarily overly disgusting, but I'm hyper sensitive to scent/touch so it's really upsetting to my senses. I've tried soaking him in hot water with soap for a while, scrubbing him, spraying air freshener, etc. and nothing seems to work. He still smells and I'm worried the smell will spread to my other figures on display or something. Any tips for getting rid of his weird odour?

TFW someone was using that storage shell as a stash box.

Unfortunately it's not that kind of dank, more like a sweaty Florida basement fart or something. I can live with weed/smoke smell strangely enough but whatever this musty smell is skeeves me out.

Maybe using wet wipes? The ones used for babies maybe since they smell nice. Just use some elbow grease.

Leave him in direct sunlight for a little while. Not long enough to bleach the plastic, maybe just 48 hours. Ultra violet light will kill an fungus or mold that may be on it.

I use my turtles as cumbox until it stops being hot then I trade them.

Sometimes I fear my toys are smelly. I have no real reason to fear that, my hygiene and cleaning is good and regular, yet sometimes you go to an otherwise cleanly person's house and it just smells off. And you realize they've just gotten used to the scent and don't notice, and people are too polite to point it out.

What does... what does that even mean?
>>4234661
That always weirds me out to think of, like how everyone's house has a smell due to various factors and you're just so accustomed to your own that you can't notice it. I always wonder what my house smells like to other people. I do remember once when I went camping for a couple weeks and when I came back home I could actually smell my house's scent and it was really comforting and strangely nostalgic? It brought up memories of when I first moved in and all that.

You COULD just toss it and get a new Raph if it bothers you that much. I mean, he's only like $10. Time is money man, don't waste any more trying to get that gross smell out.

Also, if you're really set on trying to rid him of the stink, put him in a paper bag with some activated charcoal for a few days. That shit is supposedly the standard solution for getting smells out of things.

I could buy another but I just prefer trading for toys I want. It's easier to justify spending a couple dollars on shipping to me. I don't have much spare cash for toys so basically everything I get is from big trades and such.
But honestly, he smells so bad I'm starting to consider just buying a new one like you said. Maybe I could use the stank Raph for customs or something.

You have a Raph that smells like a sewer, what's not to like?

Do this, OP. I got some Turtles figures that reeked of cigarettes and this did the trick.

Not really related, but slow board so eh.

I kept smelling weed in my office for a while. I didn't know what it was or why, whenever I smoke it's with my friend and I've never brought any in that room. It didn't constantly smell but when I was at my computer I'd just get a whiff of it. Turns out its the rubbery plastic for my Capullo Batman's cape.

I remember going to disneyland and passing by the indiana jones gift shop. Smelled something sort of musky like skunk or weed but it turns out to be a bin full of rubber snakes.

I think it's the oil they use on rubbery toys.

When I had those mutating turtles figures as a kid, the Donatello one always smelled like a skunk. Only Donatello. Now, every time I smell a dead skunk when I'm driving on the highway, it always me think of that Donatello figure.
