Might pick up one per wave, depending on what kind of stuff they add to games.
>>
Anonymous 08/11/14(Mon)13:36 UTC+1 No.4349811 Report

If you put the function aside, it's at least good for characters that don't already have figures or have them but are maybe out of reach for various reasons. For example, Ness is particularly expensive, so one might prefer to get the amiibo.

>Ness

At the very least he's not planned for the first set of Amiibos, and honestly I have my doubts about how dedicated to this Nintendo really is.
>>
Anonymous 08/11/14(Mon)14:00 UTC+1 No.4349842 Report

I think they are cool merchandise. They won't replace action figures or heck, the bigger statues, but they would make for very nice collectables.

Their smaller size also helps in that they won't seem like an overblown collection.

They would also look great with miniatures (which I don't really collect, only own a couple here and there, but these would look great next to them).

All in all, I think they are cool merchandise, and their additional game functions make them all the more useful and valuable (although I hope nintendo doesn't go crazy over that and start locking many features behind these figures).

It's a manbabby money magnet. I have no doubts nintendo will give this their full attention.

As a Fire Emblem fan, why did Marth have to turn out so shitty?
>>
Anonymous 08/11/14(Mon)14:16 UTC+1 No.4349869 Report

These will be fine for some Smash/MK8 characters, but I wouldn't buy a Mario or Samus, for example. I'd buy Ness, and some others that don't really have any figure options. From the first wave, Pikachu, Villager, Kirby and WFT (maybe depending on size) are fine purchases, everything else I either have a decent figure already (Mario, Link, Samus, Pit) or I'm hoping for a better release (Figuarts Peach pls).

Marth isn't being released in the first wave, so there's a good chance he was just an early prototype. Alternatively, these models are all just for show and none will look anywhere near as good as we've seen.

Anonymous 08/11/14(Mon)15:05 UTC+1 No.4349919 Report

I think they are cool but I also think price/purpose comes into play. I'm excited to use them with my Wii U/3DS but if their is more use to be sitting on the shelf I might not get as many as I originally planned on. The World Of Nintendo figures that just came out are kind of similar with articulation and if I could snag a Link of one of those I would be set.

For me it was one or the other, and Amiibo won out. I've really stopped caring about Smash since I came to terms with directions Sakurai is taking the series, but I really liked how the Amiibos turned out, and if I personally think I'm going to like them more if I'm enjoying more like regular figures and not an attachment for Smash.

Nothing wrong with that. Personally, I don't really see the point of using them as a substitute for other figures or to complement other figure lines, given their small size. I just plan on getting my favorite characters so I can have a little Donkey Kong or Pac-Man for my desk.
>>
Anonymous 08/11/14(Mon)15:20 UTC+1 No.4349936 Report

I think it's dumb and that economy will prevent them from making the full roster, but I'm still gonna buy it 'cause it's the only hope for a Falco figure.
>>
Anonymous 08/11/14(Mon)15:21 UTC+1 No.4349938 Report

I don't like them. They're too small and shitty to display and the form does not suit their function. They should be durable and portable like a keyring or usb drive not a fragile statue that you can't take anywhere without looking like a manchild autist.
>>
Anonymous 08/11/14(Mon)15:29 UTC+1 No.4349947 Report

>>4349935

I'm really just getting them as an addition to my collection. They won't interrupt me normal buying habits and they're not going along with any other particular line-up. I'm just a bit of a sucker for statueshit.

You just don't buy toys for just the hell of it do you?

It's like someone who like Transformer buys Transformer toys, not buy a bunch of random shit like pony and crap.

And by "medium" most figures on /toy/ is about cartoons and comix, do they not like anything from video games here?

Anonymous 08/16/14(Sat)19:51 UTC+1 No.4360803 Report

>>4360741
Yes?

That's kind of how it goes for a lot of people. Watch/read/play something you enjoy, and you want toys of them.

I'm into Transformers because I liked the show, probably wouldn't have cared otherwise if they were just robot toys that got no hook into me.

I played with Godzilla toys so much as a kid, despite having so few, because those were my favorite movies.

I considered tracking down the original Kenner Star Wars figures somehow because I got really into Star Wars in 1994, but then a brand new toyline started the following year, and it was awesome.

The only "toys for the sake of being toys" I was really into were toy cars and building/destruction toys. And often those weren't in conjunction to Godzilla and other monster toys.

I'll be buying all of the characters I care for from the line (so far, only Fox, Mario, Yoshi, DK and Link), not only because they all fit eachother, but because, for example, Figuarts mario is absolute junk, and I've never had a problem with static mario figures.

They're also all in different styles than the figures released (aside from maybe Pit), so that's a plus.

You think Jin and subject anon shit posting is bad but that's nothing compared to /v/. You're not allowed to talk about the board's subject matter without being called a shill, marketer drone of some sort.

It's only a matter of time before someone posting about Spider-Man toys gets called a Sonygger, or the sonyggers shit post the Nintendo general.

The sad part is that there really isn't wrong with what he's saying.

He just becomes really aggressive about it and people get extremely defensive so it turns into this whirlwind of shit.

If he just presented his opinions without that aura of superiority and arrogance he always does then everything would be fine, but no, he believes that he has authority on the subject and everyone else is wrong.
