I want to make something similar to pic related. looks like this person used a plastic cube, but I'm wanting something more cylindrical. Is there a tutorial somewhere? I was thinking you could use the trunk of a plastic bottle, but them I'm not sure what to use for the base and head.

my mom has one of those lol.
that's a glass cube thing that you can use for pet fish/growing a plant in. (she grows a bamboo plant in the one we have)

You might want to try out a craft store or the dollar store..they have some nice ones and one of those may work well and be pretty cheap.

If you're worried about paint or whatever I think there is a pretty okay looking plamo mewtwo.

I don't know how articulated he is but he should be just fine for what you're doing and he's cheap.

Im sure you could put another layer between the toy and the water. Like use a big container for the water then a smaller one inside that for the toy, but im not sure if it would give the same effect

There's also another method we had a thread about not too long ago. I don't know much about it, but there's an image explaining it. I believe you use water beads that turn into a gelatine. Supposedly it doesn't hurt toys at all.

Anyway OP, there are probably plenty of options. Check out Micheals if you have them in your area. I think there are also some dome shaped cases that were meant for beanie babies back in the day, though most of them open from the bottom.
