Block Tech is not to be confused with BricTek, manufacturer of knockoff Kre-O Transformers and Lego Star Wars sets.

This is a bit of a surprise. The set comes with a cardboard tray to help keep you from losing parts as well as for storage. It's actually a nice touch.

>>
Anonymous 07/12/14(Sat)19:43 UTC+1 No.4282145 Report

>>4282138

Rather than use 1x1 bricks, the instructions call for three stacked 1x1 plates. At this point, I should note that the parts quality is unsurprisingly terrible. I don't know if you can tell from the photo, but there's a ton of variance between 1x1 plates. It's incredible that they stay together.

I think the sloped 2x2 brick is supposed to be a control panel or readout display, but it's unprinted.

The set's minifigs come unassembled. The ball-jointed elbows are a nice idea, but ultimately useless. The helmets are actually molded from soft rubber in order to fit over the minifig's ears and nose. Don't even think that you'll be able to remove them. I tried to reseat a helmet, and it immediately began to tear.

It doesn't look half-bad when everything's assembled in one picture. If I hadn't put the set together, I would almost think it was a young child's MOC. Sadly, it isn't.
>>
Anonymous 07/12/14(Sat)22:08 UTC+1 No.4282380 Report

I've always considered buying KO LEGO stuff just for the hilarity. They're usually dirt-cheap, and I see smaller sets that would cost $5-$10 for a LEGO set sell for just a buck or two at the dollar stores.

Sometimes it looks like it would be worth it for a laugh just because of how terrifying and horrible the minifigures look.
>>
Anonymous 07/12/14(Sat)22:17 UTC+1 No.4282412 Report

>>4282350
I guess that does it. The cardboard tray is a nice gesture, but that's hardly enough to recommend a purchase. In fact, I would probably stay away from future Block Tech sets in the future based on my experiences with this one. Look out, Best Lock! You've got some competition for Bottom of the Barrel!

If you've followed me this far, hope you enjoyed it.

Yeah, that's my main motivation for buying these sets. It's never a question whether or not you'll be disappointed. It's a question of how disappointed you'll be. I wouldn;t have purchased this set if it hadn't also been on sale.

You're probably better off just buying an actual Kre-o version. Kre-o is super cheap compared to LEGO, and is kind of a knockoff already. That MegaBee is pretty much a knockoff of a knockoff.

Have you seen the Robot Chicken segment "World War B"?

Bumping with an addendum:

I thought I would try to build something that utilized all the pieces in the set, and I wound up with this space artillery gunship. The minifigs are godawful. Look at the minifig standing in the foreground. The back of its legs are completely empty, making the figure incredibly unstable. The slighted nudge causes the figures to slide off whatever studs they're standing on.

Still, building this ship reminded me why I sometimes enjoy buying these sets. The original designs are so lackluster that it's almost as if they are taunting you to build better, and almost anything else would be better.

Still, avoid these particular sets.
