Nerf Thread: Return of the King edition Anonymous 06/18/14(Wed)00:10 UTC+1 No.4234279 Report

That's right, the Longshot is back.

It's lost its vestigial legs and anemic front-gun, but that may be for the best.

The most versatile blaster Hasbro ever produced will be reintroduced this fall in the Zombie Strike line.

It will be, in this form at least, a Target exclusive with an included scope. No word on any other configurations yet.

Alright, however I'm quite scared to even consider opening/damaging it. Looks like it functions like an average nerf gun (pull charge handle on side to load and pull trigger inside arm to shoot); although the nozzle (where you put the darts on) is too big for nerf darts, even the nerf mega darts have to be forced on there to fit.

Would it be possible to make custom darts out of either paper or any other raw material?

Coupling down the front to hold darts should be pretty easy, Go to home depot, find a pvc pipe or pvc coupler that fits in there, and you can step it down through different sizes,

im bad at explaining it, but basically, find a Nerf compatable tupe that fits inside a larger tube that fits inside a larger tube that fits inside your gun.

Absolutely love it.
My nephew got it for free for play testing and it's pretty much a semi-automatic gun. Pull the trigger and it shoots the bands about as far as a non-elite Nerf flies. Much better than the lever action/pumpnshoot Nerf and you can run out of ammo really fast, which makes that double sized magazine so awesome. Each side of the magazine has ammo.

It does jam though and some shots go wild, but when you have like 20 shots per side, you barely notice.

>>4244822
Unlike previous Nerf Bows released over the years, this one actually seems to work *as* a bow. It's not based on air pressure or shoots darts, but actually shoots full sized foam tipped arrows. It's actually a pretty cool idea even if it is cashing in on the whole "Gurls liek Bowz!" fad.

This seem like a viable concept, and for a gun that exists only in a video game it seems pretty popular. Why can't Nerf just put it into production? I mean we have shit like the Hail-Fire with its ludicrous eight-clip capacity so dual cylinders doesn't seem too far off

What reviews say it's good?

I got the Havoc and the Hammerhead on the Kickstarter thing. In my opinion, they're pretty bad. They're hard to reload, you can't really see the rounds fly through the air which is half the fun with these sorts of blasters (Nerf), the trigger pull is annoying (heavy and long), the rounds don't really have much impact, the blasters misfire often (band just falls out the front) unless you put the rubber band thingies in perfectly (which, again, isn't so easy), etc.

So I sold both blasters, plus tons of extra NRGs, for like $10 to somebody (spent $60). I wouldn't recommend you buy unless you can find a really good deal on one. Like, no more than $10.

thats not entirely true,

but due to the way nerf works and flies you will ALWAYS have an arc.

while you can have some semblance of horrizontal accuracy, you need to account for gravity, EVERY TIME.

there is no scope, sight, or anyting else that will ever help you with this. so putting sights on nerf guns is purely cosmetic in function.

The only way to get better is practice though, Lots and lots of practice. Keep one by your bed and keep shooting that painting on your wall, you'll be able to hit anything eventually.

But good fucking luck getting that to function on o nerf gun.
>>
Anonymous 06/27/14(Fri)04:20 UTC+1 No.4252045 Report

I was always under the impression that sights were just to "look cool" more then actually being useful in any ways shape or form. That said, the custom one looks pretty nice, though it does need to have the same nerf colors.

Personally, I'd love more rail attachments of any kind, regardless of their use. That's the whole point of having the "tacticool" rail system gimmick, to load things on your blaster. That said, they really should come out with/use more accessories, like the ladder rail or maybe a flashlight attachment or a smaller blaster that hooks on to the bigger ones (aka underbarrel gun) or even a telescopic sight that actually *acts* as a small telescope.

The N-strike line should embrace and revel in the absurdity of nerf blaster accessories while the Zombie stuff should be more non-tacticool stuff, like breach loading shotguns, revolvers or lever action rifles.

Nah, anything you could put in there would just interfere with what is otherwise a nice Nerf sight, ie: a straight tube. Lenses would just be somewhere you could leave fingerprints and smudges on.

I did play around with the idea of making illuminated crosshairs. The knobs all screw off, so I can stick coin batteries and electronics in them. But I have other pressing issues, like making the rail mount.

>>4252688
when i was younger i made a really shitty tube sight out of some pvc tubing and i crossed two pieces of wire to make shitty crosshairs. perhaps you could follow a similar principle with cheap fibreoptic wire, then put a small led assembly in two of the knobs...i'm guessing you should probably do this before you fully attach the rail mount.for the rail mount, if you wanna save yourself some time, i suggest getting the elite iphone mount, as the base rail mount comes off and can be modified into a base for your scope [plus it's already in elite colours]

I don't think they are playing into "people like shooting zombies, let's do that", they know that people on campus play Humans vs Zombies specifically, and are selling that up.

In my areas most games consider gun hits to be a valid hit.

official shields (up till now, mantas and Spartan shields) frequently alter the rules to exempt you from them.

or, at the very least, its more surface area that you WONT get hit behind.

oh, ok, just read some reviews and it seems that the slingfire is actually awesome except for nerffags trying to be commandos. sorry that it doesn't hit 80 foot ranges, how about try paintball fags.

im glad its as short as it is!. Barrel length = decreased range and often accuracy.

If i do end up getting one im gonna cut it short as i can, theres never need for those pseudo barrels.

It's not as bad as Anon is professing. It's an 8/10 at best.

Here's a good video going over the internals, its problems and possible fixes. Modding doesn't look too difficult.

http://youtu.be/rO1gNcwa008

http://www.blasterlabs.com/2014/07/nerf-zombie-strike-sling-fire-review/

-Spring is basically a Retaliator spring
-There is a wierd notch on the bolt that affects the seal, probably easily fixed with some molding
-Less space for the spring to compress into, the guy in the video already doubled up the spring

Anonymous 07/04/14(Fri)03:32 UTC+1 No.4265378 Report

In hindsight, it probably has the same issues as the Roughcut. It's primed by plastic gears, which means you can only beef up the spring until it starts stripping the plastic teeth.

I was going to buy some trustfires, but I see that there are "Ultrafires" on sale through amazon. They are 14500 3.6v 1200mAh compared to the Trustfire's 3.7v 900 mAh.

Are the 1200's not used because they are more dangerous due to the increased capacity? I've heard about trustfires failing catastrophically.

It fails in many ways. The weird locking up of the mechanism makes it hard to fire even a little quickly, the large amount of dead space inside the shell is a shitty place for darts to get jammed, odd magwell placement and mag release make reloading uncomfortable, and the barrel is short to a goofy looking level. It gets subpar ranges (especially for an 'elite' generation springer), making it a very flawed, last-gen-tier blaster that was hyped up. I was legitimately excited for the slingfire, and im really fucking disappointed that i was sold an inferior piece of shit. Even my old buzzbee lever action is better, because the gimmick is still there plus the ejecting shell thing is pretty cool too.

After watching that video, it dawned on my....they should've made the underbarrel launcher fire Mega Darts instead of making the big orange missile dart. It would've made the launcher much sleeker and the gun as a whole look a lot better. Also, it would've been a good way to get people to buy more packs of Mega darts.

reports seem to say 6, and at least this thing is Mag fed, so it's not as bad as having to reload the Vulcan's belt. That said, I would've preferred if the mags were either under or over the blaster instead of jutting out each side, seems like it would make the thing a bit awkward to carry around.

Having 2 Rapidstrikes strapped together would be unwieldy no matter how the mags are arranged. Mags on the bottom would get in the way of using a bipod/tripod. I would also probably get in the way of using drum mags side by side, especially the original 35-round drums.

I couldn't buy this thing. I have two Vulcans that I don't use and I don't even have space to display one on its tripod. This thing looks twice as big, and literally impossible to be mobile with.

Only possible use is in setting up a stationary base of some sort in HvZ. Do they do that in HvZ? Have a base and have to defend it?

UPDATE: Here's the full press release straight from Nerf:
NERF N-STRIKE ELITE RHINO-FIRE Blaster
(Ages 8 years & up/Approx. Retail Price: $99.99/Available: Fall 14)
Dominate the competition with the biggest, baddest NERF blaster yet! The N-STRIKE ELITE RHINO-FIRE blaster is the first fully automatic NERF blaster featuring rapid-fire, double barrel blasting, an amazing 50 dart capacity and two N-STRIKE ELITE dart drums, turning ordinary battles into extraordinary ones. The epic RHINO-FIRE blaster sends darts soaring impressive ELITE distances of up to 90 feet, and features both a front handle for mobility and tripod to ensure awesome accuracy. Includes 50 N-STRIKE ELITE darts. Six ā€œDā€ batteries required, not included. Available exclusively at Walmart.

Available Fall 2014 (most likely around the holidays)
Wal-Mart Exclusive
MSRP: $99.99
Range: 90'
Includes 50 Darts, a tripod (I'm assuming 2 x 25 round drums)
Requires 6 D batteries (!)

While I'd prefer to wait for the actual product, here's some of the chatter:

Flywheels
Pistoning barrels (like the Pulsator)
Tac-Rails (of course)
I'm sure it's only one trigger, but the early speculation also says maybe selective firing capabilities.

It's claiming 90ft range (over the previous 75ft range currently), so I assume it's got more robust motors. Still seems a little pricy when you can buy 2 (or 3) Rapidstrikes for less than that.

That bow looks unwieldy as hell, looks like they just took a bit pistol and glued a bow to it. Not exactly what I would consider a good use of the Mega sized darts.

They need to come out with a Revonix-style Mega Dart launcher. Just a simple pump action, revolver drum fed Mega blaster with stock attachment and ladder sight included. Or maybe some quad barreled M202 styled missile launcher looking thing. They should use the larger sized darts to sit in for things that wouldn't be as effective "looking" for the smaller ones to do. Or hell, maybe a bolt action type rifle with built in magazine, though I think that'd work better for the Zombie Strike line up.

Shiny. Doubt they made it any better then the original though.

So I recently acquired a used 18 round drum mag, and for the most part it works fine in most of my blasters (Stryfe, EAT, and two Retaliators) but for some reason, when I load it into my Elite Rayven, the thing gets stuck and I have to yank the damn thing out forcibly. None of my other mags get stuck (numerous 6, 12, 18 and 35 drums) so I'm wondering if anyone would be able to suggest a reason why this one mag dislikes this one blaster. It's kind of annoying as I specifically want to use that specific mag as my primary magazine on the blaster which I use as my primary weapon.

...I actually just solved my own problem after actually comparing the drum to a newer mag. It seems the 18 round drum (the blue circle on the left) has an inset connection point with a sharp angle to it that newer mags (green circle left) don't have. In addition to that, the new Rayven has an extra Mag detector notch in it that was getting caught on said drum's insert. A quick shave of said ledge and now the drum works just as well as any other (newer) mag.
