Where to buy second hand:
>eBay/Amazon - only if you hate having too much money. Avoid Latvia.
>Mandarake - search ???? and don't trust listing images (they sometimes get mixed up).
>Yahoo Japan Auctions - same kanji as above, you'll need a proxy, try Yokatta, Noppin, or FromJapan.
>Taobao - search ???? and use a proxy, Taobaoring is pretty easy and cheap. Taoboafocus might be faster.
>Amiami occasionally gets some preowned. They tend to sell fast.
>Japtou still has some old stock but their system is unreliable.
>Check the BST, My Figure Collection, and Busou Shinki World for sales.

To continue that last convo thread. I feel like they are pretty nice guys and are a decently welcoming community. Compared to some communities rife with elitism and mental fuckery (*cough* BJDs *cough* I mean look no further than the doll thread here to see what I mean people are having mental breakdowns over not being good enough when they spent THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS on these things.) so I think that the shinkie community from what I've seen overall is pretty nice. I may be sad I didn't get into it in HS but hey better late than never.

After snagging that Itasha Robo, I seem to have way too many 1/12 vehicles. Anyone interested in some? I've got a Jeep Hurricane, some Safari-jeep things, motorcycles, a Batpod; maybe something others. It'll all be cheap, but shipping would be from Canada.

What is it, Fuchsia?
"While I appreciate you making my can first, I have to find your choice of flavor ... questionable."
Would you have rather had bubblegum or cotton candy?
"Well. No, but-"
Listen... you're always stressing over me being lazy. I know you pretend not to let it get to you, but you've got little simulated robot ulcers going on don't you? I just want you to be comfortable.

The problem is that you'll need something smaller than 1:12 if you plan to go for a regular bike as Shinkis are only five heads high - they're child-sized.

The 1/12 Honda Gorilla Dirt Bike and the 1981 Honda Motocompo could do though.

Only tangentially Shinki-related, but some people expressed interest in how I'm going to be wiring up the dollhouse, so Imma post a few WIP pictures.

First off is the junction box where the house plugs into the wall. I'll be taking this back out and papering the foundation later, but while I do the wiring I need it hooked up so I can test connections.

Next up, the wire tape itself. Two copper lines, one colored so you can keep the positive and negative straight and avoid shorts. It's about 3/4 of an inch wide, and works just like scotch tape, but with metal inside.

Normally, this flat stuff goes under the wallpaper. Since my house is already papered, I'll be hiding it in the chimney and under beams in the ceiling.

Anonymous 08/19/14(Tue)23:11 UTC+1 No.4367108 Report

Last one of these for a while, I promise.

Today I went about wiring up the attic. I don't really have anywhere to hide the tape wire up there, so I decided to drill a hole and thread the lights' own wires down into it, hiding the wires themselves up in the cranny of the roof.
>>
Anonymous 08/19/14(Tue)23:12 UTC+1 No.4367111 Report

>>4367108

I learned some lessons wiring up the outside lights, so this time I stripped the plastic off the top of the tape, so I could get a better direct connection between the wires and tape.
>>
Anonymous 08/19/14(Tue)23:15 UTC+1 No.4367119 Report

>>4367111

Sadly I didn't learn -enough- lessons. When I stripped the wire I accidentally cut too deep and broke the electrical connection. So I had to splice the wire and do it again. Waste of 4 brads, unfortunately, though I don't think I'll be running out.

In order to actually connect the wires, I'm wedging the wires under some plug style brackets designed to be used for dollhouse outlets. They provide a larger contact surface for the wire-tape connection than the brads would.

Don't sand them. Use a blade to cut off as much of the nub as possible and just leave it be. Unless you want to get super involved that's the best plan. Your shinki won't mind at all.

Hardmode: sand everything and then prime and paint with the multi layer chrome looking stuff that the gunpla general will be able to help you with.

Yeah, turns out I was actually right. Shinki and monkey bikes like the Honda Gorilla go together like toast and jam.

And the kit is a blast to built. You can't avoid seams and nubs on the metallized parts, yes, but the whole kit is so engineered in such a way that it doesn't need seam welding anywhere but in a single spot. So yeah, if you're looking for bikes, check out the Monkey, the Gorilla, the Motocompo. Dunno about Honda APE50, it seems to be an edge case and is probably going to be full-sized for Shinkis. Shame that there's no 1:12 Welbike.

My cam's batteries are dead right now though.

Their joints aren't great. They don't have a huge range of motion and the feet have next to no articulation so balancing them on their own is impossible.
