TRANSFORMERS GENERAL: NOVA PRIME EDITION Anonymous 08/10/14(Sun)05:05 UTC+1 No.4346720 Report

Old general is now autosaging.

Anyway, I really want a nova prime toy. the third party is too expensive and the tfcc one is too tiny.

This leaves me with customizing. what is a good base? i'm thinking beast hunters ultra magnus. he's massive, has the jetpack with sorta wings, and the altmode looks like the earth mode version of nova prime's longnose truck.

What do you guys think?

BH Optimus may be better; he's big as far as modern Voyagers go. Plus he's got the wings.

This suggestion may be a bit weird, but maybe even use an Energon combination? Energon Rodimus/Checkpoint as the legs, since it's a close match, and then another(maybe Prowl, since he has the wheels on his arms, and his chest plate can sort of work as the chest vent separated by an Autobot insiginia on a bar. Then find an Optimus head that fits, a voyager head or maybe a Kre-o/Contructbots head. Not sure what you'd do about the alt mode, though.

Bh prime has the bulk, but bh magnus's altmode is closer.
The long nose cab with the jetpack wings at back looks similar to the original altmode.

Only problem is that magnus's thighs are thin. have to think of ways to bulk it up.

Not an official Hot Rod, but I really like Cybertron Excellion (on the left; the right is a more faithful Japanese exclusive). I like him more than classics Rodimus. He's basically Hot Rod as a Yuusha/Brave design. He lacks the flames on his chest, and his wings are translucent, unfortunately.

Takara is doing a Springer redeco which looks noice, but will cost about $100 to import since it's exclusive to a Japanese collector's club and possibly the US TFCC, but you may need a membership to buy stuff from their store.

>>
Anonymous 08/10/14(Sun)05:53 UTC+1 No.4346840 Report

>>4346825
Robotmasters is a whole new mold, at a size class a little larger than a basic, but smaller than a deluxe. The original RM Optimus Primal had colors like the 96 toy, then it got a show accurate repaint. The retooled Optimus Primal is just the 96 ultra with a new head in robot and beast mode. The original release has show accurate gray fur colors, and the upcoming rerelease goes back to the black (though with more paint apps than the original toy).

a lot of people prefer the Robotmasters version because it's shorter and fits in better with ultra Megatron (Primal's first form was tiny in-show; shorter than dinobot or Megatron, and able to fit in a protoform with relative ease.) However, the robotmaster version is too tiny, especially compared to the new Rattrap or any Cheetor, he's shorter than them. which looks weird. The original Primal mold may not be in perfect scale, but he's the cooler toy, in any version you get him in.

Kyde is the one complaining that they're excessively detailed using big rectangular greeble messes, which... isn't what this is at all. This is paneling. Kyde never said he had a problem with paneling, he had a problem with people putting Lego messes anywhere space needed filling. This is mechanical detail etched into the figure's main shape. Pfff. BOTH things need to be done, because even if they were only doing original things, I'd still want a nice spread from stuff as GEEWUN as possible to Classics-style reimaginings,
BUT one's clearly more profitable.
It's just commercial self-protection to say "Don't compete with us.", and as much as the Jem-anon is annoying, I think there's some truth to Hasbro "ripping off" designs to the same extent that 3rd party TF groups do.
Whatever. I'm mostly fine with how things are now. We're even getting some original things too. I mean, 3D printing is coming a long way as well. They put in a 3D printer in my city's public library. I wonder what I could accomplish with that.

Man, it would have been cool if it started off as a "Nemesis Prime" aka a black/grey Optimus clone (still using that new truck for the alt mode) and then once Megatron's mind fully took over he made himself over into the Galvatron robot mode. Would have been a cool reveal. As it stood, you knew Megatron was in there the whole time.

He's coming without a trailer, right? Just like the black redeco of MP-10. I really, really wish they'd done that for the Eva MP-10. The trailer is pretty bland and adds so much to the price. I'd buy the Eva MP-10 in a second if it was cab only and thus under $200.

No, it's just that I would be genuinely shocked to see employees of a major corporate brand talk negatively of their products. It just doesn't happen outside of disgruntled employees who quit/were fired.

For the record, I think Roberts' SS is very weak. I don't hate it as a concept, but he is fucking one-note as of now. Maybe he'll give him a backstory later, maybe he'll have him redeem himself and be good again, I don't know. But from the 3 issues he's been in, he's the shallowest thing next to Dark Cybertron Scoop.

>>4348471
Generally the writers have little background on the Japanese series and look to use them for a character type that doesn't exist in US fiction. And to be fair, many of the Japan-only guys are fairly generic blank-slate passionate hotblood heroes of justice. But it's par for the course anyway in new continuities. You don't really hear anyone complain that they've made Cyclonus rather Heroic. Or that Whirl is a psychopath. People can accept some changes more readily than others, I guess.

Transformers characters to James Roberts are basically just vehicles forhim to make up whole new characterizations, regardless of what existing ones they had. Sometimes this is alright since its a character with basically no personality, othertimes he overwrites the existing character.

The other writer doing RID is much better. Fangirls dont like him because he doesnt write gay robots, but he actually sticks to the existing bios. For example,he made Thunderctacker actually act like his toy bio said he does.

I think it's apples and oranges. Roberts tells us the story he wants to and he bends characters and/or makes new ones to do so. A lot of people like that, some don't, but it is what it is.

Barber (RID's author) is much more continuity-focused. Maybe we doesn't tell as lofty a narrative, but he certainly tells one grounded in existing TF lore. Hell, probably a third to a half of RID is spent "fixing" continuity issues from the previous authors (the Reflectors, for example).

I enjoy both myself but for very different reasons.

Effectively, or at the very least, they follow the same ideas even if no part is actually shared. It's mostly how the legs and arms work that's the same. But even then, how stuff pegs in, how the crane/dump attaches, and just even molded detail differs.

I'd say they probably only share 20% or less literally identically, 60% or more parts are nearly identical, and then the leftover 20% are completely unique.

>I actually don't have very strong personal feelings on the matter, and basically feel some dismay over the character choice while enjoying the comic as a whole. Actually, I started out kind of laughing about the whole thing. That was until I learned that one of TT the designers involved with Masterpiece Star Saber was very disappointed with his recent portrayal in the comics at a time when they're going to release a major toy of him. Needless to say, the booklet for Masterpiece Star Saber is unlikely to make any mention of the IDW comics.

I don't think the designer is personally offended, it's more that they think it's a poor thing for a character to be associated with as marketing. Japanese companies can be very traditional, and having what's basically a proto-Brave character act as a villain or even morally gray just clashes with the character's image as an arbiter of justice.

Andrew "Hydra", by the way, is also the guy who helps Fun Pub hire Japanese artists to work on their comics, including the one artist who gave flamewar jiggly boobs and put a bunch of people's knickers in a twist.

Except it was more of an issue of fan vs. official shit, though. Fandom bullshit doesn't matter ultimately because it isn't official like the Botcon comic.

It wasn't the sexualization itself that was the issue, but rather the fact that it was inside an official comic. No body would have batted an eye if the comic was a doujin or anything.

It's partially their fault as well for accepting the pages, not just the Japanese artist.

It is, even if it's not what you'd like yet.
It says something when the US government funds a 3D printer to be put into a public library next to the big technical college in Canada. Charity always has ulterior motives, but it could be they want to push the industry behind it.

Aaron Archer said he thinks the toy industry is moving towards custom order for collectors. (regardless if how you think he's an idiot, which clearly he isn't if he got to the career position he was in, even if he is flawed.) 3D printing might eventually take over that role when it's no longer worth it to make expensive steel molds for large production runs.

I know it won't even be as good as Shapeways, but I want to see what kind of custom parts I can make. It'll be nice when Shapeways is replaced by file hosting where we print locally.

For ages they've been pretty affordable used. Aim for 50% retail which... would be $20 before tax? Yeah. Looks like he's typically $40 for the set, but not uncommonly as low as $20.
I love the set. They're very versatile, even in gestalt mode. You can make him look less dumpy by extending the leg bots, though he lacks knee articulation then. (Forgive the picture. It requires modification in disassembling the loader bed and attaching part of it to the chest with a rubber band. Even the other half going on his shoulder isn't securely attached.)

I can't argue with that, cuz I also like the old chunky aesthetic...
even if my preference for a series would be a proper TransTech, which I'm HOPING the trend in design from the movies will lead easily towards. We've already got beasts and strange Cybertronian alt modes, less humanoid robot modes, overly complex details, and that movie aesthetic bleeding into the main series with Prime and ... RID?

I'm a robosexual, but I'm not interested in hyper-sexualization. It turns me off. It's trying too hard.

>They make alternate heads all the time with no concrete plans of ever using them.
I'd be fine with that if we weren't missing out on Reflector and ... I forgot. At least we got Ratbat and Rumble and Frenzy in Japan.
Glyph and Detrius I guess, though Glyph looks a little flawed. That gold chrome and silver chrome look terrible. She really needs her toy Bumblebee head. but Detrius. Yum yum, Swindle colors.

When the hell are we getting SG Ratchet from Energon Inferno/Roadblock?? and I wonder if it would look good powerlinked with Slicer / SG Wheeljack.

I have the comic, and it is odd for official media. You sound so bitter.

You would be bitter if you went to Botcon and learned that the B-O smell was coming from the fan girls and not the fan boys all this time. Cosplayers never shower.

I was at Botcon too jackass thats how I have the comic. And no, from what I saw in person first hand, every oppressively awful smells of sausage, chili, sweat and ass was coming off guys. There was only one smelly girl and she wasn't in a costume, just a tank top and shorts; so I dont know what happened to you but I did not have the same experience.
