Would instantly pre-order the shit out of a Toothless.

Anonymous 06/19/14(Thu)01:33 UTC+1 No.4236244 Report

He has one, kind of. Sculpt's pretty good, and it's hard to fuck up paint apps on something mostly black and glossy.

I'd love a good Toothless. I also really liked Cloudjumper so I looked at his toy at Target and saw what a disaster it was. >>4236244 that one isn't as bad, but it still isn't very good. His expression is so awkward...

Do we have a chance of any decent companies doing HTTYD toys? I know Revoltech has done Pixar figures, but has Dreamworks done any business with any good lines?

Anonymous 06/19/14(Thu)01:52 UTC+1 No.4236275 Report

>>4236256

Nope. It might be a possibility given how TMNT's getting revols, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

And hey, cut the ten dollar figures some slack, they're pretty great for the price. String them up and hang them from the ceiling and they look pretty fly. The gronkle in particular is superbly done.

I don't know man...the ones from the tv show didn't look awful, but the new Cloudjumper and Bewilderbeast look goofy as fuck, at least in the face. Though I will admit they'd look fine hanging from a ceiling.
>>
Anonymous 06/19/14(Thu)02:01 UTC+1 No.4236289 Report

Does Japan even like Dreamworks?

I still don't think there's an "ideal" Toothless yet. The action figures are too mean/sharp (much pointier nose, etc) while the little chibi ones get the expression right but the rest of it is too stylized.
>>
Anonymous 06/19/14(Thu)02:05 UTC+1 No.4236296 Report

>>4236284

It's the eyes that do the Cloudjumper in methinks. Painting over them then giving it a sideglance or less of a thousand yard stare should alleviate a bit of QUALITY. I haven't even seen the Bewilderbeast yet, is he a wave 2 release?

Out of all these guys I think I like the Scauldron the least. He's just so bland, and the gimmick gives him a permanently doofy spitting face. The zippleback probably has the best facesculpt of the lot, which is sullied a bit by a sloppy paintjob.

>>4236289

Those are great if you're into them, though, the SD interpretations are all ace.

The only one's I've yet to handle out of box are the small bagged dragons, which also come in those sorta 1/144 playsets with the siege machines.

>>4236275
The chibi dragons are really good quality for cheap, too. I just wish I could find some of the other dragons that aren't toothless, since I have both of them already.

I'm wondering if the Skrill single was canceled in the US because he's in the "TRU exclusive" 4-pack.
The only place I saw the single pack photo was a UK site a coupler months ago.

We've got him out in droves here in NZ, he's one of the best ones methinks. His 'deluxe' figure is great as well.

I'm in Australia. Before about a month ago you could find most of the little dragons; now that the movies out all there is is toothless ones.

He should be out. He's in a bigger box thing. What really kills him is the lack of detail in his teeth.

>>4236297
I'd like to grab a few of the chibis, mainly Cloudjumper and Toothless. The Skrill looks really nice too.

At toy fair, there was a "mega Toothless" with a very nice-looking sculpt, and it doesn't look like he actually does anything.
The DVD comes out in October, since he isn't out yet we might see him then?
>>
Anonymous 06/19/14(Thu)03:11 UTC+1 No.4236430 Report

>>4236336

Lawdy, that's pretty bad. You'd think they'd go all out for the larger toys.

>>4236360

THAT looks good. One of the immediate failings of the last mega toothless was how the bloody thing was hidden in a box with no windows to see the actual product out of.

I could have sworn Japan had some really cute toothless charms out when the first movie hit them, like, deadly cute, but I haven't seen the image since. Just like little, vending machine things.

I've got this one, been meaing to take an X-Acto knife to the spines at the top of his head since they're molded in that square thing. He fell off my shelf the other week and I have no idea where his fireblast thing went.

I also managed to get one of the Build-A-Bear dolls and it's easily the best plush representation of him you can get.

You know what would work really well, I feel? A Nendoroid Toothless. Like, one of the fortes of that line is giving their figures a ton of personality - if they included a few alternate faces, and had swappable eyes (looking straight, looking to each side, and closed) that could be put in any of the faces, the results would be great. And they do flat colors with shaded highlights really well. It'd basically be like >>4236289 on steroids.

Sheeeyit I want this. I've been looking the last few weeks trying to decide what Toothless to buy. The face is either odd or the action feature kinda ruins it. But this one looks perfect.

I'd like an in scale Hiccup to go with it. His riding suit was pretty cool looking
