The G2 through BM part is based on data. RID through UT is based on handwavium.

-G2 was the worst-selling Transformers line barring Animorphs
-BM performed so badly that Hasbro scrapped a sequel
-RID has been pretty much buried by Hasbro (they left RID Prime out of the hall of fame montage) so it's EXTREMELY doubtful that it was a big seller.
-Armada is getting Generations toys out the ass

I actually like a lot of aspects of MotU and would like to see it succeed, but this is Mattel we're dealing with so that won't ever happen.

Bleh. That stupid Filmation Hordak really soured me to coming back. I think other than a Catra figure, maybe a Green Goddess, there's nothing I'll ever want. Maybe a Draego-Man or Horde trooper if I could get them for good prices.
I got my Adora, She-Ra, Shadow Weaver, but I'm thinking of even getting rid of those. Sure, I liked it better as a kid, but I also liked G1 Transformers, and both shows were garbage. There's no personal significance to me. It's just pure nostalgia.

RID actually sold well. So much so that the line continued as the basis for the original incarnation of "Transformers Universe", a filler subline created due to Armada selling like crack cocaine and stores begging for more TF toys.

Hasbro hates RID because it was based off of a Japanese exclusive line/cartoon that was only brought over because they HAD TO have a toy line/cartoon for 2001/2002, after Beast Machines tanked and killed it's sequel plans. Also, because due to shit going on at Fox Kids at the time, they were gangpressed by the network enter into an partnership with Saban to dub Car Robots into RiD and as such, Hasbro was forced to give up ALL ownership of the US rights to CR/RiD's English dub to Saban. This was a HUGE fucking mistake, as a year later, Saban was sold to Disney and Hasbro effectively forever lost ALL ownership of RiD/Car Robots in the US.

It's why there have been ZERO RiD DVD sets in the US, BTW. Disney, once they found out what they had, essentially buried the show out of spite towards their rival and by all accounts, when they eventually resold Saban back to the original owners a decade later, explicitly left RiD/Car Robots OUT of the sale.

This combined with the 911 attacks forcing extensive RE-EDITTING of the series (several episodes have 2-3 different versions created of them) has caused Hasbro to effectively wash their hands of the series because of bad memories and the bad taste Saban left in their mouths.

By the way, how do you think they could make a new; mainstream MotU line relevant again in this day and age?

Personally, I think they should embrace the weirdness of a setting essentially built around action features, sort of a classic-style sword-n-sorcery narrative filtered through a heavy lens of New Weird.

Are you sure you aren't exaggerating, and projecting when you say they "hate" RID? I suspect it's just not ideal. Without Hasbro's influence, the products are a little unbalanced, for example, the car brothers being too difficult for most children to fold up into the shells. Another example was Takara weighing in too heavily in the story of UT and screwing up the whole "is it a trilogy or not" thing.
While it costs Hasbro less to just localize an existing show and repackage toys, it obviously doesn't cater enough to their market to make as much money as it could.
I think I've heard Hasbro reps say at BotCon that since Beast Wars, pretty much every line has been more successful than the last, though they gave the impression with graphs that the movies instantly doubled the previous line's profits instead of a more gradual increase.

>It's why there have been ZERO RiD DVD sets in the US

I think they wanted to start the line up all over again as mini figures but it didn't fly. Even hardcore MOTU fans didn't care for them much.
I can just see Mattys creaming in their pants at the thought of selling non possible mini figures for around the same price as they were charging when the actual MOTUC toy line came out in 2008. They wouldn't start the price at $35 right away but after the first year once they got the fans hooked they would have come up with some lame excuse like how expensive it is to make them now and that they need to jack the price up for the next up coming year

If they made a 4 pack for the price they're selling a mere 2 of them at currently, I would be more inclined to buy those than the bottom of the barrel scraping MOTUC releases they're doing now. It's absurd that it's cheaper to buy a shitty MOTUC like Hydron brand new off of ebay than it is to buy the minis. I suspect it's because they've been juicing the annual sub drive with phantom subscribers too long and now the execs are coming down on the fact that they're in the hole due to production costs and leftovers. It's beyond suspicious that, in the 11th hour, they somehow miraculously come up with a huge surge of subscribers to green light another year of the line, despite year over year having die hards vocally say they're now cherry pickers.

Likely they've just been pushing the leftover bill that wasn't covered by actual real subscribers down into the next years projected budget, and now they're underwater, to borrow a housing market term.

People like committing on the last days, because it lets them know how much money they have (most people are really bad with their money) and they don't want to commit to things that won't go through, even if the money isn't taken from their account until the last day. If it's close to making its goal, they're going to support it.

>Likely they've just been pushing the leftover bill that wasn't covered by actual real subscribers down into the next years projected budget,
This is just retarded. No profitable business is ever going to do this, especially if they're losing costumers. They'd cancel the line before this ever happens.
