Hey /trv/, so I don't...

Hey /trv/, so I don't know if "how much would all of this cost" threads are a taboo on this board or not but I'll give it a try.

My girlfriend and I are seniors in college, we both have pretty solid jobs lined up for when we graduate. We'd like to take some time to visit Europe and Asia, ideally we'd like to spend about a month travelling, we'd like to see Spain, France, Italy, and Japan. So how much do you fellows figure it'd cost for 2 young people to travel to those places, stay in fairly decent hotels, do some shopping etc.?

I don't know. you'd figure for two people graduating into pretty good jobs you'd be able to figure out how to use google and estimate how much money you are likely to spend.

not to mention you don't even give the relevant variables to help anyone else even come up with an estimate.

shopping? what is shopping a shirt and some shoes her and there or 10 dresses, 3 designer suits, and some anal beads?

>fuck i hope you don't ask your boss stupid ass questions like this

don't know about hotel costs but i think you could get by with 100~150 per night for 2.5~4 / 5 star hotels. travels gonna cost thousands (2k ~ 4k) of dollars to europe and asia and back (assuming you're north american). budget the rest and see if you're comfortable with those kinds of constraints

Well I was more hoping for someone with some international travel experience to use their travels as a kind of metric and give me a general idea but if you're going to be this much of an autist I'll just go ask /b/.

Not taboo, but a lot more info is needed. First map out a path. Realize you are giving yourself 4 weeks to see 4 different countries. And the countries you picked have a lot to see by themselves. Honestly you should consider just traveling Europe or Asia, not both. And fairly decent, what does that mean to you. I can guarantee that if you asked 20 people on /trv to pick out a fairly decent room, you are going to get a broad range of examples. Sit down with your GF and make a list of everything you want to see in each country, prioritize. Then plan out how long it will take to see each thing, add travel days as well. Then come back with your list. Good luck anon.

OP, listen to the wise old men of 4chan. >>885868 This guy is right, don't travel to 2 continents if you only have 4 weeks of travel. Jetlag alone can be a bitch for up to a week for some people but will definitely last at least 2 days. You can spend a month in France or Italy alone and not see much.

On top of that, it's not very economical, I don't know where you're flying from but basically you'd need a rtw flight which could be quite expensive while Europe or Asia flights alone do have some great discounts.

You need to give us more info on what constitutes a "decent hotel" for you and what shopping you have in mind. Also tell us where exactly you're from.

hey op, you're missing some specifics, so I'm just gonna pretend you're from seattle.

if you want to go SEA-CDG one way you are looking at $600-700pp(Icelandair or Condor). Eurail global 2 week pass - $470. FCO-TYO will be another $600-700. NRT->SEA on a shitbin airline I wouldn't recommend $500pp. JR rail pass is another $300.

don't get an rtw ticket. With only a few stops and without going to any southern continents separate one ways is way cheaper.

next accom. I'm getting lazy, so details will be hazy. Location is everything though. For good quality basic 3* in a reasonable location $150/night in paris. In italy it will vary greatly from $110/night in rome to $250+/night in venice.

Never been to spain but in Italy and france I'd say we spend around $50pp/pd on food.

Accom in Japan is cheaper if you simply want 3*. Rarely will it cost you over $100/night. Doesn't matter where you wanna go. Meals on the other hand tend to be a bit pricier, I think I spent around $75pp/pd for the wife and I. That averages out the days where we had ramen vs the days we had a kaiseki served to us in a ryokan.

So total costs for the basics of travel. Food, roof, and travel costs for 3* hotels and reasonable quality food for a month will be around $6500/pp.

Now that is just to start. I would say that you should likely budget another $50/day just for doing stuff. Doing stuff can get surprisingly expensive. I mean, what are you gonna do? Go to rome then not shell out the $30 it costs to go inside the Colosseum?

so now you are up to 8k/pp. You can likely save $15-2000 pp if you get rid of your 'nice place' requirement and eat cheaply. You can likely save another $300pp if you spend your week in Japan strictly in Tokyo, and not get the JR pass.

travel agent recommends: don't be a tool, pick one continent. save the 2nd for later. cheaper, easier, less rushed.
