Oktoberfest 2014 Anonymous 07/29/14(Tue)09:37 UTC+1 No.880132 Report

Planning to visit Oktoberfest this year. Anyone been there already? What should I expect? Got any advice? Should I avoid opening days or something? Pic hopefuly very related.

A giant tourist trap, all the power to you if you don't mind that kind of thing though.

This. The amount of drunk foreigners is outrageous. The worst part is when they dress in poorly made traditional bavarian clothing like "lederhosen" and "dirndls".

Expect high prices on everything. We might reach the 10 euros per Maß beer this year, unless this had not happen last year already.

I don't mind other people as long as they don't bother me and there's cold beer, delicious pretzels and big boobies.

I'll survive.

No problems there, I'm well prepared.

As an Aussie who is going and planning to get dressed up in poorly made traditional clothing I can't wait to meet you!

I'm not a douchebag though I know plenty of Aussies are. Sorry about that. Every country has its bottomfeeders though.

Try to get a ticket in advance. Weekends are full, try to go on a weekday if you can. The second weekend is the worst because then it's full of Italians.

It is full of tourists, but that does not mean it isn't fun as shit, one of the most fun times I've ever had (granted I was with good friends), and I'm usually not into the whole tourist trap thing. Also do not go to the hofbräuhaus tent, while all of the tents have tourists, almost no Germans go to hofbräuhaus and it is almost exclusively shitty and obnoxious Americans and Australians. Also, like someone already said I hope you have accommodation already, if not get on that. Also you do not need reservations for a tent. Just get there early in the morning (like 7-8am) and wait in line until the tents open. Also go with a decent size group (at least 4), and make sure that only one of you goes to the bathroom at 1 time, this sounds kind of stupid and like it doesn't matter, but if more than one of you leaves your spots will be overtaken and you will lose your table, and be shit out of luck. Also a maß is €10, but if you think about it there are a about 2.5 pints in a maß, so while still expensive, about what you would pay in a lot of bars.

That would be ~500km more added to total trip distance. But, I could book hotel in Stuttgart (which seem to be much cheaper than those in Munich and would pay less than what I wanted to give to cousin anyways) and avoid driving ~400km to and from cousin's town. Great idea Anon, thanks!

So, how are Cannstatter Wasen prices? Boobies? Pretzels? Wursts?

accom is camping with a tour company.

Is everyone pretty easy to get along with or will i be drinking beer alone at tables full of assholes?

It's been years since I've been there, but they're probably still lower than Oktoberfest prices. Not by much though, looking at the 2013 prices a Maß is about 50 ct cheaper in Stuttgart.
The correct name is Cannstatter Volksfest. I wrote Wasen because I'm from the Stuttgart area and that's the name we use.

Here's the website: http://cannstatter-volksfest.de/en/landing-page/

Hope that's helpful. I'm no Wasen expert and as all Swabians I'm living in Berlin nowadays.

There might be some room in hostels still, but they will be very expensive. Unless you're going alone, I would definitely recomend just doing airbnb with your traveling buddies, will probably be cheaper.

Did you check outside of the city? The public transport is good so you can still easily make it from farther away, just check for good connections.
>>
Anonymous 08/05/14(Tue)23:56 UTC+1 No.883378 Report

>>883160
I guess your only other options really are staying outside of Munich and taking the train (which I would not recommend because it will be very shitty and not as much fun, and when you're drunk leaving Oktoberfest the last thing you want to do is figure out trains). Or you could try couchsurfing, but I think it will be very difficult to find someone to host you, especially if you have friends. I still think your best bet is airbnb, just look at all of them and if you're splitting with friends it won't be too bad.

Also you can stay at my place , i will charge you no shekels.

Also also this is a safe as fuck city, you can get as drunk as you want and not worry that much about being robbed or hurt
