What places in Rome are...
Anonymous 06/04/14(Wed)10:59 UTC+1 No.857326 Report

What places in Rome are interesting to visit besides the usual tourist locations?
I will stay there for one week with friends; we are students, so cheap or for free would be best.
I'd be interested in anything of historical or artistic significance, but everything else is fine, too.
Also, any other important tips? Tourist traps? None of us speaks the language that well.

Share your wisdom, /trv/!

there are nice fields and rolling hills and all that cool stuff to look at in the Italian countryside, even just outside of Rome.

whether or not it has any historical significance depends on how many old buildings you can see from the hill. It's artistic if you take a picture or something. It's free if you get off the guy's field before he calls the cops.

don't drink the water from the tap obviously.

I haven't been to Italy since 1998 btw, information might be outdated by now - who knows? maybe their plumbing isn't lead-lined anymore!

The part about asking locals is definitely nonsense -- they drink the local water everywhere, but it might make a foreign devil sick.

Worrying about water in Italy seems pointless, but I guess it is a reasonable idea to be cautious anywhere that you go where you have not investigated water quality before setting out. Can't hurt, I guess.

Ostia Antica is worth a visit: get the train from Piramide station. Also EUR and its Square Colliseum - a fascist suburb designed for World Games, which were scrapped because of World War
