Is the Aurora going to get more passes to it's interior? Because right now only the 300i is so severely lacking.

Pic unrelated.

300i is going to remain fucked, Aurora probably won't change all that much.

We're going to get the HMD/HUD update, that will probably be the extent of it, allowing proper PiP / display functionality

Well thats the totally-based concept image, so hopefully something like that.

Maybe not exactly like that, in terms of flight information, but we saw something similar for the PU demo so who knows. I do love that and the other cockpits that have been given that treatment, though.

Also getting the targeting update with the lag reticule Soon®, which will be nice. Much more 'realistic', if thats your bag.
>>
Anonymous 10/30/14(Thu)02:18 UTC+1 No.84884912 Report

>>84884584
That's concept as far as I know, so it should be similar but not exactly that.

It's also worth reminding people that customizing HUD and HMD is a thing, as CIG have said a number of times they want to let you have control of what you see. So even if a HUD is shit you should be able to tweak it to make it less shit.
>>
Anonymous 10/30/14(Thu)02:20 UTC+1 No.84885078 Report

>>84884912
Perhaps. I would imagine that we'll get combat-HMDs as maybe an expensive upgrade, perhaps limited to ships that can actually mount one. Like, mounting it to a Starfarer is probably impossible but not a Freelancer MIS.
>>
Anonymous 10/30/14(Thu)02:26 UTC+1 No.84885498 Report

>>84885078
Depends on the ship I would imagine. Some have HUD's and others seem to rely on HMD's. Customizing a HUD would be a direct ship upgrade but an HMD would be more spacesuit/helmet upgrade related.

Hopefully it's both and it gets heavy on the customization side. It would be cool to have to pick an optimal suit when getting in a specific ship.
>>
Anonymous 10/30/14(Thu)02:41 UTC+1 No.84886772 Report

>>84885498
Freelancer seems like it would rely mostly on HUD since it's Alien. But a Merlin that appears to be mostly basic mechanics in the cockpit would surely be HMD based.

Reposting the Travis talk on HUD, controls, and targeting.

Here's the full transcript of Travis' talk about targeting changes.

We've had an, I don't want to say overhaul, but basically targeting and flight controls as they relate to the HUD have had a redo that makes it much, much more easy to shoot fixed weapons. Not because we enabled any kind of autoaim because looking at modern fighter jet aircraft we have a lag pip reticle now. We're cleaning up a lot of the HUD elements so that they're a little more minimalistic and you can see more of the ship and get more a direct corollary between where you're aiming and where you're hitting. It feels much more satisfying

One of the other things is people are complaining about "Mouse Commander." That mouse and keyboard are super OP. So what it really comes down to is that we have race mode, space combat, and those two have two different control curves that you'd want. On racing you don't really care about maintaining a steady bead on anything, so you want it to be super snappy and super responsive. As soon as you start pushing on it you want it to just snap to its maximum yaw or pitch. Whereas in dogfighting, that sucks. Especially when you have a stick with a low theta like a gamepad you don't have a lot of distance/range physically. That little theta makes it so that you have to make it significantly less sensitive than the joystick at the beginning, and then exponentially ramp up with a little bit of a plateau in the mid-range. So it's basically been toying with all these different curves and making them dynamic.

It wouldn't be so bad if all of the kids from r/pcmasterrace aren't shitting up the community with "but nobody plays with a joystick, everybody uses a mouse because it's better" and "the mouse > joystick when it comes to aiming" like this game is a fucking first person shooter.

Fucks didn't even know what PC gaming was until that faggot Yahtzee started spamming up the internet with trash about how much console gaming sucks.

Yes I am mad.

Anonymous 10/30/14(Thu)02:46 UTC+1 No.84887161 Report

>>84886849
>>84887057
That's the cool part. Now the game has more awareness of what you are doing contextually, and that's been a big push. So with a mouse it's less important because you're just moving a mouse. For a joystick or a gamepad, it knows if your target is in front of you and as it comes within kind of a cone in front of the ship, it says "hey you're probably trying to aim at that guy so what I'm going to do is deaden your input a little and slide the linearity curve over" so that now all of sudden your 1 to 100 is now really like the old 0-25. It prevents you from overshooting.

I don't know if you played with a mouse or a gamepad, but with a gamepad you definitely overshoot a lot because you're overcorrecting a lot. It's not a function of anybody being a bad player, it's a function of the fact that the linearity curve for the controller setup is not ideal for those. So this will basically intelligently deaden the response although obviously if you push hard right it'll just go "fuck it okay he doesn't want to do that anymore and pull away.

No. You cannot unfuck space-based flightmodels without fundamentally changing the game so that it is no longer WWII spacefighters in space.

Newtonian or non-newtonian does not matter, they will always be fundamentally fucked up because the environment functions nothing like the WWII air combat they try to emulate and fail at.

This goes as much for ED as it does star citizen and literally every other space fighter sim in existence.

Once you throw multiplayer into the mix between actual human players, the problems become extremely obvious, because retarded AI no longer masks them.

They fixed the main thing people were complaining about with 2.0, losing speed when you try to turn with flight assist off at all. Now it's just a steady bleed off to prohibit FAoff boosting forever.

The major problem now is one I saw a long way off, back when EDshill was still shilling for the 400 billion star systems. With just 2,400 systems available now, take a few jumps out and you're practically guaranteed to never see another player ever. Compare the current state against beta 1 with it's 50 star systems, and it feels less interesting overall. Back in Beta 1 each system had its own personality, there were specific reasons you'd want to go to X system. Now 99.9% of the systems are throwaway, and you only remember that one where the station is an emporium of ships and equipment.

Not to mention "exploration" feels more like a chore than a fun game mechanic because you have to use your eyes to spot tiny white dots moving against the background starfield because for some reason a thousand years in the future we don't have instruments that can find celestial objects within a solar system. And if you have to find brown dwarves, or dwarf stars period hundreds if not thousands of light seconds away, forget about it.

Honestly the core game is fun and the starting grind is helped a bit with the bulletin board system, but it's still very much a massive sandbox as there are no emergent story elements in different factions conquering territory yet. It'll be an entertaining game to play while waiting for SC's PU but certain elements people shilled for it are boring as all hell.

For those two though I jumped through so many that were literally just stars, or it was after the point where I could no longer be fucked to find the tiny white dots and just switched over to bounty hunting.

Do you like pew pew and upgrading your ship? If so grab it on release because the beta isn't worth the extra money, it'll tie you over for the PU, and pimping out your ship is currently the most rewarding aspect.

You'll also enjoy it if you're an astronomy enthusiast and like going to various systems that we know about.

I'm just glad that Star Citizen won't be filled with cash grabs, product placements, p2w ships and gear, broken promises and misrepresented dreams, unlike those games put out by those evil publishers.

It's good that indie studios can put out small little games on a measly budget of 60-some million, that's really sticking it to the man!

They actually didn't, they promised the first alpha of it. But still, we are behind. I really didn't expect anything else. However, to say they've 'stopped development' (assuming you're that same moronic anon) is just wrong

Before the kickstarter was finished CIG was basically 4 guys. Over the last year the development has pretty much strated from scratch as they decided that instead of just sitting on all of the extra money they made, they completely changed the scope of the game and decided to SPEND ALL OF IT on massively growing the company. Full development has barely even started.

I know you're being facetious, but yeah, deadlines certainly do ruin what would have otherwise been great games.

I would FAR rather Star Citizen be a year behind and closer to what they're painting a picture of than a year earlier and boring shit.

Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines would have been even better had the publishers not dicked around completely and rushed its release, much like a load of cult classics that never got the chance for polish and half the features.

The Caterpillar was their best ship design, not only do you have a believable amount of walking space inside it, but the cockpit and bridge are placed to the side for all the compartments to go in a straight line and not have to make the ship any wider. The engines are properly sized and look like what you would need to push something weighing 84 thousand kilos, and it has enough space in it for equipment and sensors to be realistically placed on it and not just made possible through space magic. Also, bulkheads and airlocks galore because of the modular bits.

I know what you mean about the size of the engines, but really in space you wouldn't really need that kind of size propulsion. Not at all.

Man, Danposting is hilarious.

Though I do have to agree that the Herald concept isn't stellar from that perspective. I was expecting something smaller, maybe more Dart-like. No need for all that exposed transmission equipment when having it under the hood, or at least retractable would do.

Kong are literally more autistic, more furfaggy than ved. Also ved threads were much better than the rampant shit posting /scg/ has now.

Basically Norris the leader of Kong ordered his autist hordes to shit post /scg/ and make ved leave so they could take over the op.

Skip to 43 minutes in if you want to get to the good stuff. Travis (playing live) is having no trouble at all hitting targets. It's like he's playing Freespace 2 he's so accurate. There's also a padlock mode which also doubles as a pseudo auto-aim for the gimballed guns. Iron Man HUD is completely gone and replaced with target boxes.

its basically an off center crosshair that shows where your bullets are likely to hit if you pull the trigger at any given time
so basically you know where your bullets are going at all times and it shows a line between that and your crosshair so you can aim your ships turn to overlap the enemy

Modern jet fighters use them. Diaspora uses them.

Would you rather point your guns at a reticule box? Or put a reticule on top of the enemy ship so you can actually get a better sense of where you might actually hit the ship. The choice is obvious.

Its more intuitive to put a reticule towards the front of the enemy ship if you wanna nail em in the cockpit, or say a ship is an easier target towards one side of his frame.

Its guess work shooting guns at a box, using the enemy ship as reference, giving you two points instead of 1 that you need to focus on during fire.
>>
Anonymous 10/31/14(Fri)08:51 UTC+1 No.85003653 Report

>>85002835
I'm thinking it'd fit the requirements best if the gravity generators were shaped like a Faraday cage, with the necessary wires built into the bulkhead of the ship and not necessarily needing to be at right angles to each other.

You can leave gaps for doors but it decreases the efficiency.

You could also build smaller, stronger generators around the cockpit to act as inertial compensators and allow the developers to give each ship a different g-safe curve.(Or allow players to maneuver at higher Gs by adding a stronger compensator.)

i'm new to star citizen, been following it a little bit in the past but not too much. i got some questions if someone could answer them

what's the "goal"/endgame content? from what ive seen its almost like EVE (not that i know much about that either) but more action oriented. am i right in the assumption that endgame content will be mostly player-made factions PVPing, trading and brokering alliances with each other like EVE?

what's the PVE like? enemy AI etc. is that fully fleshed out of more of a side thing to do?

i'm very impressed with what i've seen, visuals, occulus support, gameplay, stuff like that. i'm just wondering what there will be to do in the game besides PVPing, because that's not really something i'm that interested in

>what's the "goal"/endgame content?
Mostly Sandboxy, PU(persistent universe) content managed by CIG

> from what ive seen its almost like EVE (not that i know much about that either) but more action oriented.
Not really, but there are similar elements.

Star Citizen is more hands-on with FPS elements, MMO-feels. Eve is point and click simulation.

> am i right in the assumption that endgame content will be mostly player-made factions PVPing, trading and brokering alliances with each other like EVE?

Yes. PVE will have a major role as well. Shaping the world as players go about and do stuff.

>what's the PVE like? enemy AI etc. is that fully fleshed out of more of a side thing to do?

It's going to be something vast... Watch the videos in the OP. And read the FAQ

90% of the people in the universe will be NPCs and there's a pve/pvp slider. There should be NPC pirates and bounties and stuff like that. They focus a lot on PVE also

This mode turns the pilots’ head and reticule in the direction that you’re pitching or yawing, offering a better view in that direction. This gives a more natural feel to piloting, and makes it easier to keep targets in your sights. This mode works with Joystick and Gamepad users, whereas the Keyboard and mouse users already have this feature as default (for instance, when using the hornet)

Noice.

Patch is out, guise. The HUD is way better, and the mouse targeting is... different.
