y'all need to cool your tits with regards to the pokemons' heights. wigglytuff is 3'3" according to its dex, yet it has appeared both as knee-height next to ash and as 7'+ next to nurse joy. the heights literally mean nothing to anyone except the trolls who think it's funny to spam 2' votes on obviously 6' mons

I saw someone else echo this point in a separate thread, but it still stands: why are all the mons here designed to be competitive? why does every stat distribution have to be focused on countering a specific threat? furthermore, as multiple graphs have shown, everyone just wants to go fast. that was a huge flaw in gen VI, it just turned into one big clusterfuck of "muh priority" "NO MUH PRIORITY"

>>18017414 Because things need roles. All mons have roles. Heals, DPS, Tank. Those are the general roles for RPGs. With pokemon, it is spread out and more diverse. So we fill those roles. We have 225 pokemon that we labored to vote in to their spot in the dex. If it isn't usable it is a waste of a spot in the dex

Feebas learns many more moves than Magikarp because the focus of its design isn't being weak as it is with Magikarp. Likewise, Fortifry,s movepool shouldn't be as dramatically limited.

Changing a design requires a lot more effort than just changing it. We'd need a new sugi We'd need a new front sprite We'd need a new back sprite We'd need a new icon We'd need new OW's We'd need to change everything else that includes the design, like the wiki
I'm not saying we absolutely shouldn't touch anything ever again, but be conservative with your votes. Its going to cause a LOT more work than you think

Also, via speed min-maxing - speed is the kind of stat you have to do with other mons in mind. Speed tiers are one of the most metagame defining aspects and in that stat, substracting 4 points really means a lot.
What reason do we have not to survey the boars besides "because no"? We have other things like that to survey anyway, it would be so easy to throw it in and see what the people think. Just because it's in a survey doesn't mean the new one will win, and if it does then it's because the majority likes it better. We seem pretty split on this issue and it's not much extra work at all to add it to a survey, so why wouldn't we? I don't care much about the outcome either way but I think it should at least get a chance..

But the survey is to give both variations of the design a chance, unless I'm completely misunderstanding this issue here. The whole point of surveying something is to let people express their opinion, not to make sure everybody votes for the one you like best.

On that, I tried making linework for a new backsprite. As an example, the middle one uses colors from the current front sprite but the shading/coloring would need to be properly done by someone who can actually do it.

for abilities, we had a pretty decent time limit given for people to submit new abilities for inclusion in the game so I don't know why you didn't have them submitted already...

Though one could argue that the time between the ability/attack submission deadline and the release of XY was too short for us to have known what was worth including from the new gen.
as for mechanics, I'm kind of ambivalent on the subject, I mean, it should be fine as long as we don't include anything that has to do with fairies... but at the same time, aren't most of the mechanics changes in Gen 6 a direct result of trying to balance the game after the introduction of the new typing? Couldn't any mechanics changes result in balance issues for our own game if we're not also including the new typing?

IDK, I've always wondered why your pokemon doesn't receive Exp. points for battles where you captured a mon, since the pokemon is technically 'experiencing' the battle you would think it would gain exp as long as it fought at all... though if you're gonna have capture exp I guess the next logical step would be runaway exp and having opponent NPC trainers pokemon levelup after KOing one of your mons.
it's not that different... but anyway, I wasn't really trying to make a tu quoquo argument, I was really just wondering why you would need moves that have a special niche function (like thief stealing items) be given a power boost when you could easily just teach your mon a different move.
