Thanks and yes, I use perler. I personally like to iron them enough so the beads become square and have no holes in them, some people don't like them like that, but I believe it is better because you reduce the risk of them breaking. Anyway, the way I iron them, at least for small and medium size sprites, I put the iron on the highest setting and I gently iron the sprite first, not too much, just enough so every bead fuses and they stick to the ironing paper, iron in circular motion for about 15 seconds. Then, I pick it up and gently remove the paper, flip the sprite and iron again, this time a little bit more than the first side, about 20-25 seconds, avoid over ironing. Wait a few seconds and slowly remove the ironing paper. Flip it over one more time and iron even more so all the little holes are gone and the beads get that square shape, just try to avoid over ironing. With larger sprites is harder some people use the taping method, but I just suck at it and if you just barely fuck up, you can ruin the entire thing.

You're welcome, just remember, iron three times, first time just a bit, the second time a bit more and iron more on the third, also apply a bit of pressure if you want, forgot to mention, avoid mixing beads of different brands. I've heard that perler and hama mix well, but if you don't need to, just avoid mixing.

I'll be honest, it doesn't fetch much of an earning. I'll occasionally post sprite sales since I make so many of them, and that's when I seem to get the most customers. But Every so often I'll get someone who wants their character or OC "Beadified" and that's where I make the big bucks.

Since I started doing this in 2010, I'd say it's gets me, and I'm estimating here, at most an extra $200.00 a year. At MOST.

That's also not taking into account bead purchasing and dealing with faggots at the post office. I fucking HATE the post office...

The beads are cheap. It's a small investment to get started of course, but less than $100 will get you a solid base to work from. Find some friends that're willing to pay a few bucks for little trinkets and you can make that back in no time. Then it's pretty much all profit after that.

Suerte!

any of the more detailed sprites look bad because all the colors are off. maybe if there was a way to match the colors exactly to how they look in the game it would be worthwhile

With the available colors you can make pretty much everything up to 16 bits, with a few exceptions. 32 bit sprites are also possible. But yeah, a lot of people use what they have available and sometimes they turn out pretty bad. I always try to match the colors as much as possible, and if I see that the it just won't look good I don't do it. Let me take a picture of one of my earliest things. I did not have that many colors so it looks kinda off, it doesn't look bad but with the colors that I have now it would look so much better.

There is, it's called the "taping method" and it is exactly what it sounds like. You tape the whole thing and iron it, this avoids the sprite from warping. I assume they must iron the same way I do. This method is highly recommended for larger projects since they are very easy to fuck up if you iron the whole thing on the pegboards, it is extremely frustrating when that happens. Also, this was you avoid damaging the pegboards, look it up on youtube.

>Holes open vs. holes closed (giggity)
Although in some cases, yes, the sprites do look better when the holes are completely closed, I've found that closing them takes alot of heat. So much so that it may cause them to burn or flatten the sprite. Mostly the lighter colored beads such as white, yellow, and peach will burn almost instantly if not careful, giving the color these weird scorch marks. Also whenever the sprites flatten, I think they just look like shit altogether.

I prefer leaving them a little open for a few reasons. First of all, the burning and flattening you don't have to worry about, and second, they just seem to look bigger and better overall. I've been making them for about 5 years now, and I've never had the before mentioned problem of seeing through them on a contrasting background. My walls are white, I hang all of my sprites on my wall, I've looked at them at every possible angle and have never had that problem. Now if I were to put them in front of a window, I could see the problem, but otherwise I still think open is better.

I just prefer them a bit flat and and the beads to go square, that makes them look like actual pixels. I once heard a couple near the door and the girl was like "omg these are sooo coool, look there's mario and that's kirby and that's pikachu and... I don't know the rest"

You mean making those holes disappear? I suppose you can try to iron it again, maybe at not such a great temperature, just being careful not to over iron it and trying not to make it so flat. I would flip it (make it face the opposite side that you want to display) iron it a bit but not much, just enough to get some heat to the sprite, then peel the ironing paper, flip it and iron more on the "front side" focusing on the area that you missed.

Well the appeal is that you just iron beads together and it looks like a sprite
Coloring them before ironing with any kind of paint would lead to the paint melting, and if you paint them after ironing, you might as well cut out some cardboard and paint that, but that's less durable than beads

This. There is no reason to buy them mixed, it will take forever just to find a hundred of each color and several sprites take more than that. If you can get them online it's even better.

As for the supersized board, I don't think it's too bad. I've made about five things including pic related and it looks fine. Sure, it warps a little bit right after I use it, but not enough to make it unusable, also it kinda gets into its original position after a while. But yep, it's better to buy the standard ones since those can be linked together, which the super sized can't. Pic related, I made these two last night and my superboard is fine.
