>I don't like the new Sonic games, but the classics are some of my favorite things to play

>Lol nostalgiafag, GTFO

I don't know how people can have such a high tolerance for the stupid shit SEGA released today.

16-bit Sanic discussion, I guess

>since the 5th gen, lots of excellent or at least decent 3D platformers were created
>somehow, Sega couldn't an almost perfect work with Sonic like Nintendo, Rare or Naughty Dog

I don't know why Sega tries to reinvent wheel every time.

And about the thread, I've been paying attention to Sonic 3D Blast soundtrack in the last days, and damn. The music is pretty good.

it was a lot harder to translate sonic to 3D than it was mario, because of the speed aspect. And even mario was completely reinvented, with SM64 having vastly different gameplay compared to the 2D titles

Now that the 1991 GG proto was finally dumped, with no Tails to be found because he probably didn't even make the cut just yet, what are the odds that this was the first actual title screen for Sonic 2 from when they were just testing the new engine at STI? I know it's full blown autism, but it has been bothering me so much I had it to put it down in an image. Of course only word of a team member could confirm something as trivial as this, but it's not like we are ever going to see anything like it so it's cool to imagine the first rough roots of a great game to become.

Sonic 3d Blast genesis had an amazing soundtrack only held back by the off-putting "main" theme for the title and invincibility, hell it was so good that quite a few tracks were recycled for Sonic Adventure.

3D Sonic games have been good since Sonic Unleashed. They're not the same game as the old genesis games, but for what they are they work. I actually just played threw Sonic Adventures 1, and with how bad they are comparatively to the original genesis games, I tried to figure out why that is. Mechanically it seemed obvious. Levels were almost completely linear, there was no real way to recreate the momentum mechanic in a 3D environment without it being clunky and unplayable, and other character's stories were literally just re-used assets from Sonic's stages besides a few exceptions to artificially lengthen that game. Sonic Adventure 2 just looked better with shittier music.
That being said, though I can honestly say that Sonic Unleashed-onward were actually pretty good games, they don't really feel like extensions of the original genesis games like they probably should have been. How would you guys design a Sonic 1-3n'Knuckles game in 3D? I haven't played lost worlds yet, but I'm told it's pretty alright.

Sonic Generations was alright, but the retro Sonic levels were kinda' boring/linear. Kinda' what I was looking forward to and got blueballed.
