So, I've been playing the first Persona, and I'm having fun so far. However, I got lost in the part where the school is revealed to be an alternate universe. Before I proceed any further, is there anything I should watch out for? I know for a fact these games have fun fun ways of screwing you over (so far I almost got blasted by a pack of Gremlins and those bitches with their HP to 1 move).

Also, are physical builds viable?

You wanna pump into Dex. Also it's not too hard but you'll occasionally run into asshole demons every now and then. Save often and try not to slam that auto button when you get into a new area with unfamiliar enemies.

Maybe it's because I played Earthbound and Persona 3 first, but I no longer trust Auto battles.

Get Reiji. He's a pain to get but he's worth the effort. He was called Chris in the PSX release.

Also, I recommend playing the PSP remake if you have a PSP. The only thing the PSX does better is the soundtrack. The PSP remake follows the music style of the later Personas which is hit or miss with people.

The Ice Queen route alone is worth it.

I have played through nocturne and earthbound many times and I wish every RPG had auto battle

Barely any games have the battle skip that EB has. The only ones that do are the Atelier and Mana Khemia games, and Hyperdimension Neptunia.

Suikoden at least gives you a 100% retreat rate if an encounter is much weaker than you.

I was referring to the press x or whatever it was to just keep whacking away with no menus, but I like that auto win thing as well

one of the wild arms games does something similar, I want to say 3

Chris is almost unkillable. It's just a pain to get him, both in the fact that you will need to use a guide to get him (do one step in the wrong order and it won't work), AND you have to progress through Sebec with only 4 people instead of 5.
