Retro Mecca Anonymous 09/07/14(Sun)01:02 UTC+1 No.1918529 Report

Recently moved to Eugene Oregon and I'm blown away by the popularity and accessibility of retro gaming here. We have 3 popular arcades (not Family Fun Centers or Dave and Busters, real fucking arcades). There are a bunch of retro game stores which help to keep the prices down from highway robbery prices (still not awesome price wise, but what are you gonna do?). Frat kids always moving out and throwing away their Party Machines (N64s with SMK, SSB, Goldeneye). It's paradise for a id like me....

Can we talk about cities or towns which have exceptional retro game culture?

Anonymous 09/07/14(Sun)01:14 UTC+1 No.1918560 Report

mmmmm... That's the PNW dream right there. Can't wait to have a 9 month excuse to beat my back log of retro vidya

"Why haven't you found a job and why are you just playing games"

"It's raining"

"Oh... Good point..."

NYC is pretty good in terms of arcades, but the prices at retro stores are abysmal
Anonymous 09/07/14(Sun)01:59 UTC+1 No.1918620 Report

mfw I was top 3 on the high scores leaderboard in Marble Madness for a while.
Anonymous 09/07/14(Sun)02:04 UTC+1 No.1918629 Report

This is my dream.

I love the rain, I really need to move out there.
Anonymous 09/07/14(Sun)02:13 UTC+1 No.1918651 Report

Only people who aren't from Seattle would agree with that. Doesn't even rain that hard nor much here.
Anonymous 09/07/14(Sun)02:39 UTC+1 No.1918714 Report

I'm also from Eugene! OP we need to hang out

>We have 3 popular arcades
We have three? I only know of two. There's Level Up downtown, Shoryuken League downtown, and then Tilt over in Springfield. Is there another one in Eugene itself or is that counting Springfield too?

>There are a bunch of retro game stores which help to keep the prices down from highway robbery prices
I don't go way out to west or south Eugene much. Besides Big City Gamin' and CD Game Exchange (both less than 1/2 mile from the downtown bus station) what other places are there? I remember there being a TCG/CCG and game store way out in west Eugene by Winco that closed in 2009 but besides that, that whole end of town I barely even know.

Like you said, college towns have a lot of good stuff since

>Frat kids always moving out and throwing away their Party Machines
Anonymous 09/07/14(Sun)04:00 UTC+1 No.1918872 Report

>Uncle lives outside of Eugene
>Live in Southeast Washington where yard sales are awful and craigslist is full of resellers and ebay pricers
>Every time I go to visit him find cool retro shit at yard sales

It's too good to be true
Anonymous 09/07/14(Sun)04:02 UTC+1 No.1918878 Report

Welcome to Oregon, Anon. Coos Bay here. There's a neat place called Joey's Arcade here, make sure to stop by it some time if you're ever in the area.
Anonymous 09/07/14(Sun)04:05 UTC+1 No.1918885 Report

There's also a nice used game store here that's called 'Recycle Video Games'. They buy, sell, and trade anything from atari to xbone and ps4. They also do console repairs and modding.
Anonymous 09/07/14(Sun)04:07 UTC+1 No.1918891 Report

No, go away, we don't want you, it's already getting too expensive to live here because of those Portlandia assholes
Anonymous 09/07/14(Sun)04:10 UTC+1 No.1918897 Report

>tfw your country could give less of a damn about retro games
Anonymous 09/07/14(Sun)05:02 UTC+1 No.1919030 Report

Right on anon!
Send me a message (mamameangreens@ g mail) and we can play some Street Fighter at Shoryuken

It gets dark around 4 PM around the whole northern part of the country, jackass. Only thing that it is around here is cold in the fall/winter. Other than that if you're actually from here you have no qualms with being outside or socializing in it.

If you ever go up to Salem or Portland, you should check out Wunderland. It's a nickle arcade with some pretty cool games. It charges an entrance fee, but if you sign up for their mailing list once a month they send out a coupon that's like 'your family gets in free + 40 nickles a person' (I have brought in 4 clearly unrelated friends and they still let me use it for them).

I only visit Eugene occasionally, but I know that CD Game Exchange is pretty cool. Never been to any of the arcades there though

Anyone coming up for the Portland Retro Gaming Expo? retrogamingexpo.com

Had a really good time last year
Anonymous 09/07/14(Sun)23:05 UTC+1 No.1920972 Report

Any area that has a classic gaming expo is good enough in my book.

check out "coin jam" in salem, retro arcade/bar with good food, 21+ so no annoying kids.
Anonymous 09/09/14(Tue)03:37 UTC+1 No.1924518 Report

Also an Oregonian, Central Oregon though. No arcades, just a few shitty stores with bad price and selection and a guy at a flea market that has average prices but is pretty chill.
Anonymous 09/09/14(Tue)03:40 UTC+1 No.1924527 Report

I think I'm going for some speakers and just for the hell of it. # hour drive, but seems worth it.
