So would it be cool to have a Sims 1 thread?

And you could talk about that here if you wanted to because it was released on a platform that was released before 1999.

Kind of weird that game is only from 2000. It feels like the sims games have been around for a lot longer than that.

In theory we could also discuss Diablo II as it runs on Windows® 2000*, 95, 98, and NT 4.0 Service Pack 5
>>
Anonymous 05/17/14(Sat)21:08 UTC+1 No.1628139 Report

I still play the classic Sims from time to time. Unfortunately, there just isn't that much to do in the game when compared to the sequels.

>>1628107

Why not? The rules don't need to be that strict. If a game if off by maybe 1 year and it's obviously on par with retro graphics or design, then I don't see any reason to go around being a thread delete Nazi.

As long designated towards an OS thats using DOS or a DOS shell, it should be considered kosher

Anonymous 05/17/14(Sat)21:51 UTC+1 No.1628259 Report

There are several things I think /vr/ needs to overlook:

Diablo II - You're not going to have a serious discussion about this on /v/. You're not going to have a serious discussion about gaming in *general* on /v/. /v/ is not about video games; /v/ is one part troll's nest, one part /pol/emics and one part spam heap. Plus Diablo III has been out for some time now. To my knowledge, D2 no longer receives any kind of support from Blizzard.

Morrowind - See above. Even if /v/ does discuss The Elder Scrolls, they're exclusively interested in Oblivion, Skyrim and the upcoming ES6. With The Elder Scrolls VI being announced, I would think Morrowind is definitely considered retro by now.

GBA - Nintendo already considers the GBA a legacy platform. In fact, you can even download GBA games from their eShop and put them on your 3DS. As far as handheld discussion on /v/ is concerned, it's entirely 3DS games and then a bunch of Vita marketers trying to viral the PSP.

As for the GBA's library, much of it consists of NES, SNES, SMS, arcade and Genesis ports and remakes, and every other game is pretty much on par with that.

There used to be Deus Ex threads, that was released in 2000. I haven't seen any lately though, so maybe they cracked down on them.

Because all you really need is common sense when discussing the games, but you also only need one loud complaining person to upset that balance. So it's probably better to stick by the rules overall for peace of mind and not allow exceptions

Is 1999 a hard limit or does it go on a 15 year sliding scale. i.e. next year it would be 2000, year after that 2001, etc...

Anonymous 05/18/14(Sun)01:14 UTC+1 No.1628665 Report

Has anybody successfully tried to play this on a 64 bit Windows 8 install?

I can't even get the launcher to startup.

Also, when running in a VM, the game says (after it's all been installed) that it detected a debugger and to turn it off.

I guess I *could* dual boot, or just set up an older machine with an old OS, but that's a lot just for one game.

Much sadness.

That term used to refer to 16-bit color in Win9x. Switch color depths before running if possible (XP only). Win Vista/7/8 don't expose lower color depths without custom modes.

Get back to /v/, children, games you played when you were a tot aren't retro. You're not old enough to consider your childhood games retro yet.

Turn 30 at least and then we'll talk.

That's beside the point entirely. Diablo II was released in 2000 for Windows 95 and 98 compatible PCs, Operating systems that were developed at the mid-point and tail end of the 90's and yet everyone on /vr/ treats Diablo II as this huge "taboo" thing that's shunned and berated because it doesn't follow the guidelines. When in fact it has to do with the majority of people on here being completely ill-informed regarding computers and retro pc gaming

In Seiken Densetsu 3 there is an item called "Puipui Grass" and every time we use it my friend and I go "Pui, pui" like the sims would say when talking to each other.
