Well, shit, this is something that I always wanted to do to one of my favorite games of all time:

>This patch alters a few aspects of Legend of Mana’s battle system in an attempt to make the game more difficult.

>Key Features:

>Enemies can no longer hitstunned by quick attacks.

>Plunge attack damage is based on a multiplier that’s increased by doing quick attacks, and will not do damage when used on their own.

>The player moves slower.

>Enemies and companions move substantially faster than before.

>Enemies do more damage.

> Game Overs occur as soon as the player dies, regardless of whether their companions/pets/golems are still alive or not.

>Note: Due to the nature of these changes, the patch is intended to be used only with single player, on the default in-game difficulty setting.

I'm going to try this out, will report back.

Sounds like no fun mode, which is what most "hard mode" hacks boil down to.

Yeah. Legend of Mana was never meant to be a hard game, most of the Mana series is actually really easy it was always more story focused..

Usually I would agree when there's already a hard mode within the game where enemies are capped at lvl 999, but in this case what I really appreciate about this was making the enemies faster and more aggressive. I could swear bosses barely tried attacking me even on hard mode.
>>1786795
Most jrpgs are like that, really. Thing is, LoM had lots of beat'em up style skills and spells you could set up but they never had any use on a normal game because of how braindead the enemy AI was.

Nonetheless it's a good reason to try this game out again. It's been a while since I played it.
So, Mana general, I guess?

Maybe I haven't played Legend of Mana in a while, but I recall the player moving pretty slowly in combat as it is. That sounds pretty irritating to me.

You could use the dash to offset that.

He also addded a chain combo counter. Cool.

Yeah, as much as I love this game, this hack doesn't interest me at all.

The beat-em-up battle system is really secondary to almost every single other aspect of the game. I spent most of my time playing either tempering or trying to figure out new formulas for raising pets and/or tempering new equips.

Anyway, glad this game still gets some love. It's definitely a comfy favorite.

It sounds like Nightmare/No Future mode with annoying tweaks. I'm fine with the hitstun removal, but
>The player moves slower.
Even slower? No thanks.

>>1786821
>You could use the dash to offset that.
It'd be wasting an ability to offset a bad design choice on a hack. I don't really see the point, especially since it doesn't offset how the
>Enemies and companions move substantially faster than before.

But yeah, I agree with >>1787101, I'm glad Legend of Mana still gets love. It's my favorite Mana game.

Whats sad is that the game has a pretty decent hard mode too. patch guy seems to know his changes would cause the player to get murdered hard in it too

This needed an extra hard mode?

I mean, I'm all for pushing the player, but I was pushed pretty well with the Hard mode already there.

Nope. This random schmuck thinks he knows best.

I just find it absolutely hilarious how all these rom hackers think making the game cripplingly difficult is the "answer" when really its just really, really shitty design decisions.

There are -good- romhacks, don't get me wrong, but those usually fix problems that are really, really annoying or tedious in older games, like Simon's Quest REDACTED.

Most of the times its just stupid bullshit like Zelda Parallel Towers or those crazy mario hacks.

Instead of whining on 4chan, you can play the hack and say "I played the hack and I feel the following changes would have a better overall experience while still being challenging..."

how about "leaving the game as it is"?

I did try the hack in the OP out. It's just an annoying hardmode in a game that already offers three difficulty levels, one of those already almost impossible to go through. If you like extra artificial difficulty beyond the modes the game already offers it's fine, but it offers nothing of value to anyone else.

that is pretty much exactly the entire purpose of the patch

>This patch alters a few aspects of Legend of Mana’s battle system in an attempt to make the game more difficult.

>make the game more difficult

>more difficult

I don't need LoM to be any more difficult myself but holy shit I also don't feel the need to go HOW DARE THIS THING NOT BE FOR ME UGH

That's why I said it's fine.

That's also why I said "but it offers nothing of value to anyone else."
