No interest in Rebirth and I couldn't get into Galaxies. It's still better than III though.

It has massive slowdown. The screen can't scroll fast enough so if you get too many speedups it turns into slow mo mode.

V>Gaiden>II>Rebirth>Galaxies>I>IV>III

I is okay. A bit bland. II is great. III has tons of flaws, both arcade and snes.

V is sooooooo damn good.
>>
Anonymous 07/23/14(Wed)00:31 UTC+1 No.1793974 Report

These games are really boring. Despite that I still beat 1, Galaxies and got near the end of 2

But they all played the same goddamn

This. Parodius is so much better and it's even from the same dev.

V is too long, takes a while to really get started presenting a challenge, has those two somewhat lengthy and annoying unskippable cutscenes, and imo the level design in II and Gaiden is just a touch better.
It's definitely an excellent game though. Treasure's best shmup by far I think.

For me:
Gaiden > II > V > I > IV >>> III

How does /vr/ feel about Xexex?
Personally, it's one of my favorite games Konami has ever made, up there with Goemon's Great Adventure, Rocket Knight Adventures, and Gradius Gaiden for me.

Anonymous 07/23/14(Wed)21:48 UTC+1 No.1796992 Report

I play a lot of shmups but I'm not amazingly good at them. That being said I love snes gradius 3, prolly one of my favorites on the system. probably because of how easy it is, huh?

This has extreme supremacy over pretty much any shmup.

Honorable mentions:

Pulstar (Neo Geo CD)
R-Type II (Arcade)
Deimos Rising (Mac)
Xevious (Atari 7800)

While we're on the topic what about best PC-Engine/Turbo SHUMPS. If you had to choose which of the following do you think is best. I'm trying to pick one for the Virtual Console but they all seem good in different regards:

Soldier Blade
Final Soldier
or
Blazing Lazers
