>rupee collecting: the game

Did this piss anyone else off about Zelda 1? Most of the time is just collecting rupees, if you want to get 100% anyway. Not fun or hard, just tedious and boring. At least ALttP had a room where you could farm rupees.

What are you even blowing all those rupees on? Do you chug potions just getting from place to place? Are you spamming arrows at every single enemy? What is wrong with you?

I dunno, it takes you a decent while to get a blue ring, especially if you didn't find the two 100 rupee secrets. On top of that, there's the blue candle, the magic shield, the meat, and the bow, which at the absolute lowest prices still amounts to something like 200 more rupees. So do you only need 500 rupees or so to beat the whole game? Yeah, but when the easiest way to cover that amount is through constant searching for hidden rupee holes (all while hopefully also avoiding rupee traps), and your only alternative is to farm enemies that maybe drop 1 or 5 rupees each, things tend to get tedious.

I agree with the OP that Z1 is a real rupee grind at times, but it doesn't affect my enjoyment as much now that I know where the hidden rupee holes are at. I'm not looking forward to playing the 2nd quest though, as I don't know where stuff is in that map and I'm sure it will get tiresome.

Use the save trick by pressing a and up on the second controller. You can then save scum at the betting rooms, and Bob's your uncle! You now have all the fucking money could could ever want.

When I played this game as I kid, I don't remember having to farm to buy the candle/ring/shield. Of course, this is during the times when a blind run was truly a blind run (unless your friends spoiled it for you), so lots of aimless wandering, exploring, and trial and error was the meat of the game and you'd max out rupees in the process of figuring out where the fuck you needed to go. Finding and buying the blue ring felt so fucking cash the first time I did it.

I never gambled because my luck was terrible and save scumming was like playing Russian roulette with your save file-- but I remember on subsequent playthroughs I always went straight for the graveyard and loaded the screen with ghosts-- and it didn't take long to max out rupees.

You can get 510 rupees from hidden caves before entering a single dungeon.

If all else fails go to castle 2 and kill snakes all day. Leave and return for more snakes. Those bastards drop 5ers every time.
