She's refering to the serval as the BROTHER of her real, human child... wtf? Besides, letting her kid tease a wild animal? I was watching waiting for something bad to happen. You don't wanna piss of a cat that big and agile...fukin wacko bitch

>>
Anonymous 08/25/14(Mon)22:59 UTC+1 No.478689 Report

>>478688
Probably. Thats why its generally a stupid idea to be special snowflake a get wild animals as pets. If an animal can't behave like in its natural habitat, it shouldnt be kept as pet at all.

A couple of years ago I adopted a cat that was held its whole life in a samll apartment. Made her fucked up in the head. She came around though eventually because I allowed her to go outside. Actually became quite a killer, always bringing mice and stuff. Mind you I lived in a rural area back then...
>>

While I understand that cats are animals and as such people think they should be allowed to go outside, I can't deny the fact that the mortality rate is much higher for outdoor cats. My indoor cat is 6 years old now, older than any other cats that I let out of the house.

... Yes they are. Savanah cats are a cross between a domestic cat and a serval. They're huge compared to housecats, but the half domestic breeding makes them very nice pets. They're almost like dogs, you can train them easier than a 100% domestic cat, and they like to go for walks and shit.

Manx cats are born without tails, and they're usually (USUALLY) fine, although there is a lot of inbreeding among pedigree Manx cats, because the defects in the genes that code for the development of the tail are pretty unique. I think. I could be completely off, so don't take it as gospel, look it up for yourselves.

I've had indoor cats for many years. My first kitten was hit by a car, my second cat almost died from being hit by a bicycle, then cancer got him; our vet told us that our area had an abnormally high cancer rate for outdoor pets, possibly due to the shady stuff they used to get up to at the university. In fact, another cat of ours died of cancer because he was a rescue from one of the campus's animal testing labs. Our last outdoor cat was killed by our neighbor's boxer. She was only 3 years old and he broke her neck. Fuck that.

All my indoor cats have been happy and healthy. The house is small but they have lots of toys, a big cat tree, a climbing gym, window perches to entertain themselves and most of all, tons of attention and love. The one thing the layout of this place doesn't provide is a spot to build a screened porch. I wish!

They've all lived to 18+ years of age since I stopped letting them out.

I don't know who believes that living indoors makes cats crazy or miserable, but that's just retarded.

Every indoor cat I've seen has been miserable or had attitude problems when interacting with other creatures/humans. They're always trying to look out the window or go outside when given the opportunity. Despite every single owner thinking their cat was happy or fine.

I'd rather my cats live a full and happy life being able to enjoy their surroundings and do their cat things than keep them locked up 24/7 for years just because of fear of the world.

Brought in a stray kitten to my vet clinic I worked at and took care of him for the week while he recovered from a respiratory infection and ear mites. When we rereleased him he actually refused to be released again.
The Veterinarian I work with has usually said that most cats should be kept indoors but there are very few exceptions that do better outdoors than indoors. And sometimes it's partly only due to temperament

It depends on the breed honestly

My cat is a bengal, and he's practically a wild animal. We tried keeping him indoors from kittenhood, but after he managed to escape a few times he would meow incessantly at the door for (literally) hours. One day I finally just picked him up and threw him out, and he loved it. He roams around and yells at people in our neighborhood for food (he apparently loves string cheese) and gets in fights with other cats
Sometimes he brings home his kills and eats them in our front yard. If you try and go near him he growls at you

I have a question for all the cat people, since it's relevant to the thread.

Is there any inherently bad problems with munchkin cats? [ The ones with the stubby legs, I think that's what they're called. ]

I kind of want one, but if they have a bunch of joint problems or whatever I probably won't be able to take care of one.

My old girl lived to be nearly twenty living indoors. She was a picture of health and happiness; no weight problems, great personality, best fuckin cat on the planet. She never had any serious health problems until she was 16 and then it was just irritable bowel syndrome and she had to eat a pill every day, no problems. When I brought her in to the vet for that our vet went bonkers over what a picture of health my cat was for 16. She got around just fine, ran and played like a cat half her age till the very end. Passed away peacefully in her sleep here at home with me.

I'll always have indoor cats.
